Dell Inspiron 6400 Microphone Problem!?

You say that you had 'tried' to download the Dell Support Centre?
Does that mean it was unsuccessful?
If so, I am very surprised as it certainly supports the Inspiron platform!
You would need to be in warranty to have Dell freely exchange components.
However you do not need warranty to download the support software.

hey kensumke first of all my dell download was successful second of all it wont get me any driver as it all says to me is that it needs a warranty!

After looking at your system specs, Have you tried Sigma or Intel first?
When you right click on the sound icon, go to recording devices,click on the microphone and Properties should become clickable. Then you will see the options to enable in the box that opens.

hey ilikefree i installed sigmatel but will not work when i try to use my audio recording device.I don't know were to get a intel audio driver because i could'nt find it could you give me a link.oh yeah and the realtek codecs don't work!

Go to Device Manager,expand Sound Video and Game Controllers and it should be listed there.

Sorry I was reading the system specs you listed wrong.If you go to device manager and expand the sound icon it will tell you what you have.
Also press F5 every so often to refresh this Forum page and see if anything has been added.

SigmaTel High Defenition Audio CODEC
and that's all am i missing anything?
I downloaded the driver but when i try to open it nothing happens i just click on the driver you told me too download and then it would just load nothing and just it normal!!

When you have it downloaded to your computer go to Device Manager,expand Sound,Update driver.
When asked look on line or browse your computer pick browse and go to downloaded file

EDIT:Update the driver then go to the sound icon (by the date) and do what I said earlier to tell it to use this device.
