Whoah..... That was a little confusing there. Try using capitalization and punctuation. And don't worry, no one on here will judge you, and if they do for something that stupid then i am sure Brink would have something to say about it. And don't worry about being young, I'm only 17 (soon anyways) and you would never guess. (I hope)

Anyways.... Your problem. What is a DEP program? It is the windows "security feature" that everyone hates? I looked it up and it looks like it. So, you are trying to use iTunes and Vista is DEPing the program? It blocks it when you open it correct? When does the problem occur? We do need a little more information on the problem, such as: When it occurs, how often, any other programs? That sort of thing.

Ok. So is it the UAC blocking it? Or it is the DEP like this:

Ok so let me see if i can figure out the problem....

You are trying to run a program (such as Winamp and iTunes) and when you double click, the box (like the one up above right?) displays? Or is it a different box? That could be different dependant on which box it is (I think there are two or three different ones) Does it say "Closed" or "Blocked"?

ALL RIGHT.

Great pictures thank you.

Ok, so its not the DEP blocking your programs, its a problem with them.
Try reinstalling both of them, and see if that helps.

I am having the same problem. I just bought a new laptop which is running Vista Home Premium x64. I have installed iTunes 8 -- the 64 bit version. The DEP does not allow the program to load when I try to open it. Now I know Bill doesn't allow anything Apple in his house, but I am a bit more open minded. I really would like to use my iTouch & iTunes with this computer. Has any one come up with a way to disable the DEP if it doesn't allow iTunes to be added to the exceptions list? The problem is not with the program (iTunes) since I am running it on my desktop too. The desktop runs a 64 bit version of Vista as well. iTunes runs fine on that one. Apparently it has to do with the processor being able to support hardware-based DEP. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Rhonda,

You could turn off Windows Defender (I think) or turn off UAC by going into User Accounts.

Thanks for your reply, LordBob. The Windows defender and UAC don't have anything to do with the DEP. I did try those things though. The good news is that I had success by uninstalling iTunes and re-downloading the program and installing from that file. The program setup files I had used were a couple months older ( I save everything I download, eventually, to optical media) and the new file must have been an updated version with a patch to make it compatable with the DEP. In anycase, iTunes is up and running now. Once again, I think you very much for your reply. :D

Actually, I just figured it out last night.

Press [windows]+Pause/Break to open the system menu (or control panel -> system) and press advanced systems settings on the side. Go to the advanced Tab, and press settings. Go over to the D.E.P. (Data Execution Prevention) tab, and press add, then add in iTunes and whatever else you need.

Sorry it was too late.

Lordbob,

Thanks for checking it out. I had actually done that. But if your processor is DEP capable and there is no way to toggle the feature off in the BIOS, you're kind of out of luck. I couldn't change the setting and add iTunes to the list of exceptions. If you happen to find a way to do that, I would love it if you let me know about it. I really do appreciate that you took the time to check it out. That was an awesome thing to do. Thanks again.

Yeah. I tried several times and I would get a message that said the program could not be run without DEP. It was frustrating. As long as the DEP is enabled only by the software (OS) you can change the individual programs. But the cpu/hardware DEP would not allow it. It's very strange. I am hoping to learn whether it is possible to bypass that somehow -- in case another event is not solved so easily.

Well, you can get around it if you set up a task, but I have found no other way... :(

If I set it up as a task? I'm not certain I know how to do that. I am guessing it's a bit like setting up a scheduled scan or defrag, etc.
I wanted to commend you for being very helpful and willing to teach me. Thanks a lot.
