error code 80070641

Hi everyone

First time posting to this forum, hope someone out there can help me.

I've 12 important updates that I've tried installing but keeps failing and gives an error code 80070641.

I've tried the Fix-it tool in windows with no luck, also ran sfc /scannow which informs me that I have corrupt files that it could not fix.

I have also checked windows installer is set to automatic and is started.

Any ideas folks???

Hi richc64

Thanks for your advice. I changed my updater to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" and then tried one update at a time and they all failed giving the same error code for each one "80070641" below I've listed the updates in question, just in case that might help.
Or maybe I didn't follow your advise correctly??? Not that computer I T savvy:confused:.
Really grateful for your help and advice.

Hi Bill,

Yes, that's the one! Good job. Before we move on to a fix, I would like to double check these files with the results from the SFC scan. Can you please go to this tutorial:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Near the top of the page, you will see a yellow "Tip" box with two sets of instructions in it. Could you follow step 2 only please? This will generate a file, sfcdetails.txt, which I would like you to post the contents of for us to have a look at.

Hi Richard

Thanks again for your help and advice, I tried the first and second fixes you advised and rebooted after each one before attempting to update but unfortunately with the same result......failed.

I only have a mobile dongle for internet access so downloading is very slowwwww and it got pretty late by the time I'd completed your first two suggestions. I will attempt the third fix shortly.

But I'm going to respond to Tom's request first.

Kind regards

Hi Tom

Thanks for your advice but unfortunately I was unable to complete the task, I downloaded the 7-zip file and that's where things started to go wrong. It wasn't the same as the one in the screenshot....instead of a Compatibility tab my one had a Share tab. So I looked at how to change this and was taken into the registry, I followed the steps and the very last one again on mine wasn't the same as the screenshot so I backed out before I made matters worse!! The instructions were to make changes in the registry, something I know nothing about, especially when the (layers) file wasn't there. Sorry:confused:

Is there any other way to get the info you require?

Kind regards

Hello Bill,

I'm so so sorry! I had a typo in those last instructions. What I meant to say was choose step 1 only.

Hi Richard

Tried some of the options in that third suggestion of yours but sorry to say still no luck installing afterwards. Another update was added to the list but this one was successfully installed;

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.127.201.0)

Why can this one install but not the others?

I'm most grateful for your time, help and advice.

Kind regards

Bill

TY Tom, but you are too generous. I helped obtain the SFC, to see if there were problems others could solve.
Without any other input from you or others, my next suggestion is a Repair install.

Okay, I'll give it a quick go replacing these files manually :) As confirmed by your CBS log, I think these are the culprit files:
