Using Outlook express 6.0.600.16386 Vista SP1 and getting this error.

I can recive mail and it will do the send and receive part but if I try to send mail then I get this. Looks as if this stsrted since the install of SP1 as I was sending mail before.

I have googled the error and have done everything that was talked about. Have turn off firewall and no good. All settings in the email account are as they should be.

Does Charter support SMTP SSL connections on port 25? Most servers use port 465. Try setting the port to 465. If that doesn't work, trying turning off SSL while using port 25.

Yes charter supports port 25. All my accounts (5 of them) on my Vista box are set up the same way. I never use SSL.

With using port 465 I get.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'Heshup', Server: 'mail.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What is strange is that before I installed SP1 on this Vista all my email accounts work just fine and three XP Pros all set the same way. I have check all my settings for all my email accounts on all my Oss and they are all the same and all work but the Vista since the upgrade to SP1. As I am doing this post i am receiving mail on Vista just can't send mail.

Scott

You missed the point of my post. The original error message you provided indicates that SSL is turned on which may be the problem. Make sure SSL is not enabled for SMTP and try it again.

Sorry I didn't miss your point. I am aware of the SSL and it is not turned on nor has it ever been turned on.

BTW where do you see this turned on in the error? I see this Secure(SSL): No

See here:

Now if you know any other places that this could be turned on at would be good info.
Thanks.

Open a command window and type this (you might have enable the telnet client):

telnet mail.charter.net 25

And hit return. What happens?

I have it fixed. It was nothing to do with SP1 as i was thinking or any email settings.

I got to thinking about what i did after the install of Sp1 and remembered the only thing i did was to install Comodo. Now i can go back one time as i installed Comodo on XP and it screwed up my email in XP. Comodo is gone and so are the problems.

Thanks for your time for trying to fix this.
