Event ID 100 - cannot solve problem

Hello,
I am having trouble with a Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 installation. Boot times are exceedingly slow, and I keep receiving Event ID 100 in the Event Log.
I have tried the following...
Deleting temporary files, etc. using CCleaner.
Running a full CHKDSK which reported no errors.
Defragmenting the drive. I even tried PuranDefrag's boot defrag, but that did not fix the issue.

Creating a new user account does not solve the problem.
A full MalwareBytes scan found no malware.
Clean boot does not solve the problem either.

Not good
Try in safe mode, if it does not work, its a hardware problem. Most likely hard drive.
Post back either way.

Sounds like a basic driver like, graphics, audio etc
Can you get to system restore?

Go back to before the problem
Event 100 just means a boot time problem. It means that you are slow.
and
Go to search by the start button. Type device manager. In manager look for small yellow arrows. It means that driver is corrupt.
You are welcome

OK that means the drivers are not corrupt. Do you know how to update the basic drivers; audio, internet, graphics etc?

I found this old description of the Event 100- Event ID 100

However, I'm hesitant to say this is the cause of the slow boot times. If you run msconfig.exe and look at the Startup tab, you may notice things that don't need to be there (disabling them doesn't make them inoperable). My bootup takes all of 4 minutes because of the anti-virus, back up scheduler, etc. Since I put my system to sleep rather than shutting down, I don't worry about the boot time.

We already disabled all that is not necessary with the clean boot and it did not help.
On a side note my boot takes 45 seconds. Nothing is disabled or on delayed boot.

How do you update them and how do you know they are up to date?

Thats what I thought. Using that method to find updates very rarely gives the most up to date. For the primary drivers, network, graphics, audio, go to the website and check for the most up to date. Most large companies have a scanner on their website that will scan your computer and give the "true" most up to date.

See, not sure if it will solve your problem, but its best to have the most up to date driver.

RichC, that was for the integrated graphics. I apologize for not pointing that out.
Boot time is still slow. It is driving me up the wall.

My Computer
