oauu we have reinforcements

hi z3ro10

INTERESTING! Now Where I can find the raid drivers.
The fact and the matter is that each time I am sent to the startup recovery screen I am asked to load drivers. There is nothing to give me a clue which drivers I should load. I have access to the vista dvd. but not to the drive C or D which have to be formated .It wont let me get inside C or D because I am required to format them.
NOW .. are the raid drivers on vista DVD???

Hope to hear from you soon.

Just try it, when it comes to the screen asking for drivers just pop the driver disk in and try them until it finds the drive.

just finished the recovery attempt. Same crap.

Once again I have 2 hdd each 500 gbb. This is the drice C on wich vista is installed.
Then I have the 3 rd drive 500 gbb .This is drive D which was completly invisible since now, when I can see it when I am asked to load the drivers.
I have the ASUS motherboard INSTALLATION CD. There are some raid drivers. Are those the one I need?

Actually I have another drive as well. Drive X . This is the boot drive. Looks like a sort of partion.

Maybe some new ideas.

thx

this is the very reason software based RAID should never be used.
It just causes too many problems.

I'd say your only hope is to disconnect all the drives, install your O/ S on a clean drive and see if you can recover the data from the other drives one at a time and never use RAID again unless you buy an actual RAID controller.

Other than that your only other choice is to take it to a computer repair shop where they have the equient to retrieve your data but the aren't going to ne able to save your O/S because its beyond repair.

Nice advice.

I still confused. I am using my super pc for video editing . I understood that raid array will increase the speed of your system. RIGHT????
How much is going to downgrade the overall speed system a regular array comparing to a raid one. Should I buy a sata external drive or an usb one. I think with an SATA external one plus the 3 x500gb I have inside I can still consider a nice raid configuration.
I know litlle about raid but i know that is one very safe(in terms of loosing data). I guess raid 5 or 0, I don t know as I said. Can someone gimme an ultimate advice about the best way to set up my hard drives , considering the fact that I will have one 500 external and 3x500g internal= 4 hdd.
thx

RAID is a good way to optimize multiple HDD's but the RAID controller on M/Boards is software based in the BIOS.

I have a very nice M/Board like you but I wouldn't touch the RAID controller on here with a Ten foot Pole because of just what you're going through.

True RAID controllers are a piece of hardware that you physically plug all your HDD's into. RAID 1 is great but RAID 5 is like uber great and will cost you allot of money.
The main reason RAID is even in existence has to do with servers and the huge amount of memory the keep. The first reason for RAID controllers was to allow the I/T Tech to swap out a bad HDD without having to shut the system down, but the other advantages are it also increases data transfer rates between HDD's thus improving data acquisition.

In a Home Computer you might be able to see the difference if you where running several slow HDD's in RAID 0 or 1 but with the higher speed HDD's of Today you'd be hard pressed to notice.

I too am into video editing and after a few headaches like the one you're going through I learned real fast that the farther away from the O/S you can get your data the better. You see, if you hadn't used RAID on your HDD's then you could have saved all your work files on one of the other drives and when this happened all you would have lost would have been the data and O/S on the main boot drive.
When you RAID HDD's within the BIOS you're joining them mathematically, not physically like with a true RAID device, so when the O/S hits the Fan it takes your other drives with it.

When you get this all sorted out DON"T use RAID, it just isn't worth the headache.

Like I sad in another post, you might be able to recover your data from the other 2 HDD's or even the main boot drive if you get another HDD, I'll say a little prayer for you that it works but don't count on miracles.
You just learned a very valuable lesson like I and many others have.
That's why once a Week I back up all my project files on an external HDD, the farther away from the O/S the better.

I hope it all works out for you.

Thank you so much for all your very nice thoughts and great advices.
Tomorrow I will buy the new drive and try to save my stuff. And I will follow your advice and get rid of this RAID CONFIG.
I will let you know what happened. Thank you again for everything.

I had a similar issue a while back, and lost some data when I lost the ability to re-construct a RAId array (the new motherboard didn't support JBOD). R-Studio helped me to recover my data without loss:

All right !

I decided to install a fresh copy of a vista64.
The nightmare is far from over.

My Computer

did you buy a new drive?
did you break the raid ?
can your bios see the new drive ?
i have a asus p5k-e motherboard with raid 0 and never had any of the trouble your having. with or without raid when installing the os it finds the drives without having to install drivers for it first. i'd break the raid first then go into your bios and reset your settings and then try reinstalling the software. if that don't work take your system
to your local shop for repair.

i don t know how to break the raid.
bios can see the hard drive.
I didn t buy a new one. I just removed two hard drives and I left one inside connected to the motherboard. Vista is asking me to install drivers for the hard drive. AMAIZING.
Maybe because I didn t break the raids as you said.

I lost my cool.
Does it matter which drives I am taking out and which I left inside. I should be able to format it .Right?

I would of thought you need to load the sata drivers.
