Hello opette,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Try this...

HP Recovery Center
With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.
That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.
It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points saved!

Im guessing the computer came installed with XP, but then you installed windows vista. If there is a problem id first try a system restore. If you made any big changes, there is most likley a restore point that will fix the problem. If that doesnt work try the F11 key at the POST screen. That should take you to the system recovery. However, assuming that you installed Vista on top of the xp installaion, the system recovery may not work.

Hello opette,

Try this, if it will let you create a "Recovery Disc" set you should be OK.
Just remember if it will let you do it you will only get to make one set make it a good one! Also I learned the hard way, if you have the option to make a double layer DVD do it, that way you will only have one disc as opposed to fifteen CD's.

Go here in the start menu...

umm hi guys my computer is a Compaq Presario c700
i have a massively annoying problem with my vista OS.
Previously i was trying to install a new antivirus system onto my computer, but i mucked up the uninstall for my preivous one, norton, and hence cudnt acess the internet, i assume was cuz of sum firewall thing. So i went to my recovery manager and made a disc then rebooted my comp using the recovery manager for system restore. However when i went about recovering my computer to its factory default settings, it had an error message when reinstalling it. and wen i reboot my computer it came up with a BOOTMGR is missing Press ctrl+alt+del to restart. So i tried putting in my recovery cd that i previously burnt. But it still came up with this error message, dunt know how to fix :S
I also want to know how the other partition of my computer works, because my friend has the same computer model as me and i got him to burn me his partition in an attempt to restore my computer, but when he acessed the drive, it had no prompt telling him to like burn it to a cd to prevent harm etc. but he just clicked burn on the top right corner. when he burnt it though, it was a 880mb file, does that seem right?
rsvp thx :)

My Computer

You need to download the 32 bit one. It's on the same page. It is a torrent download, so you need a torrent client - it's all explained at the link.

NEOSMART2009-02-11_031336.jpg

I have the iso on my pc , but it's too large at 120mb to post on this page for you to download direct, I'm afraid.

It is definitely worth getting as it should correct those boot problems and will be useful to you in the future as well.

Hope it helps

umm ye its just repairing atm, just wanna noe once it finishes and i boot up my comp, because i wanna restore my computer to its factory settings, but because last time this screwd up and gave me a error which resulted in the bootmger missing black screen, i was wonderin is there another way to system restore my computer ><

My Computer

Hi,

The startup repair should allow you to boot up. You cannot use that cd to reinstall the operating system.

If your system allows you to run off it's own "recovery" cd's , do that when you have got back into Vista.
