Huge mail prob

Hi.

Using Win Mail 6.0.6

Everything was working fine, until earlier today, a message got stuck in my outbox. Now, the message was actually sent; it's in my sent items folder. But it's also in my outbox with a "Message Can Not Be Displayed" error.

1) Can't delete it; I get a message saying "an unknown error has occured"
2) Can't send it; upon hittng send & receive, the message remains
3) Can't move it to another mail folder
4) Can't move it to the desktop; I get a message saying "an unexpected error is preventing the operation. Take note of this error code which may help you resove this issuse. Error 0x0000000 The operation completed successfully."
5) Can't send new email; that gets stuck in the outbox behind this problem message
6) Upon shutting down mail, I get a message telling me there are unsent messages, do I want to send them now, saying yes does not resolve the issue.
7) Rebooting did not help

What do I do here?

Thanks in advance.

Are you proficient in setting up e-mail account in Windows Mail ?
If you are not, open WM and copy down all the settings needed to set up that account.
If you know what to do, then......

Open WM > Tools > Accounts > click your account > Remove > exit WM
Reopen WM > Tools > Accounts > Add > re-enter your account.
Test you newly re-created account.
Is everything ok now.

t42 - thansk for the time. Will try that if richc46's suggestion does not work.

richc46 > this makes no sense to me. Not your faullt; it's the way the MS site is.

I go to the link you provided, and click Download the 941090 package now.

That brings me to a 'Validation Required' page. At the bottom, it says 'To start the download, click the Download button ...' Umm, there is no d/l button. So, I click continue, and the next page I see is telling me that IE9 is here. Where the hell do I d/l this package from?

Thanks.

If you download the new Windows Mail 2011, like I have, the installation should be automatic. If it is not, all you have to do is to supply the information that is asked by T 4 2
It is really very easy and we will be glad to help.
I gave you that article as an after thought, why fix something old, when you can have the most up to date; install Windows 2011.
If you make a system restore point first, you can even go back if you do not like it.

Per your question
All you have to do is fill in the required information and then continue. Actually, if the information is correct, just click continue.
Be sure to pick the right one for 32 bit or 64 bit. It should be the same as your Operating System (Vista)

K, a little confused. I thought that package was a fix for the problem, but now you are saying I should d/l a new version?

ok, why dont I try t42's idea. I know how to do that, so not a problem. But if i do that, wont I lose everything in my sent items folder and inbox (which I can't)?

Thanks again.

No, you won't lose a thing. All messages will stay intact.

Ok, backed up the mail folder. Deleted the acct, and made a new acct.

Didn't fix the problem - the message is still in the outbox and I still cant delete it.

Plus, when i go to send and receive, it's wanting to d/l over 900 emails - emails that are NOT on my server.

What is going on?

Ok, this is not working.

the only thing in that article that applies to me is to d/l this patch that will supposedly fix the problem. That patch is the same 941090 package that you referenced me to earlier. There is no way to d/l that patch. Which is completely baffling to me.

Yes, I saw that - that's what I was referring to.

If you have SP1 or SP2 that patch is already in your system.
But
That tutorial gives 4 other things to try.

Don't torture yourself, switch to Windows Live Mail.
Upon installing Windows Live Mail (WLM), all your messages and data will be transferred from Windows Mail (WM) automatically. You don't have to do any Export/Import.
You don't have to give up WM. Both WM and WLM will co-exist. Just name one as your default. So, you can use WLM while you can search for way to fix WM.

My Computer

Right - I do have SP1

Not seeing anything else that applies - save for the last item.

1) AV - does not apply; email scanning options already turned off.

2) d/l patch

3) WMUtil - ok applies, but did not work.

4) Check Email at Online Access - not appl.

5) Alternatives - no.

6) How to Backup and Reset Windows Mail - going to try that now.

My Computer

Ok, that did it. #6 worked, but now all of my messages are gone. So, I take the bu, and put it back in the mail folder, and the problem is now back. Meaning that the problem is somewhere in that folder.
