If that computer is new you likely won't find drivers for 7, much less Vista. This is especially true with usb 3. Those drivers have to come from the manufacturer. I don't know of any usb 3.0 drivers for Vista. There are some for 7 though. If there are any 7 drivers you can try them on Vista. I've had some work in the past. However you'd have better luck trying to put 7 on a new computer and that would be tricky.

Hi Umutc4nefe:

You did not tell us the make and model of your new computer and most of the hardware components (e.g., your network and WiFi cards) but I agree with townsbg that it's unlikely that you'll be able to find Vista-compatible drivers . For example, I can only see drivers for 64-bit Win 10 on the Intel HD Graphics 620 driver download page at Downloads for Intel® HD Graphics 620.

If I go to the NVIDIA site at Download Drivers | NVIDIA and search for drivers for the GeForce 920MX it tells me "No certified driver were found for this configuration" for both 32-bit or 64-bit Vista. It looks like that graphics card only has drivers for Win 7 and higher.

Your integrated graphics was characteristic of Intel processors with Kaby Lake microarchitecture. I believe you have asked elsewhere about the extended kernel, which requires 64-bit Vista, which in turn requires Ivy Bridge or earlier Intel hardware. If you want to run software that does not support Vista on that laptop, I’m sure that it shipped with an OS that is capable of doing so. But if you want to tinker with Vista, then you need older Intel hardware (or AMD) and not an Optimus laptop.

Question- If he installs Vista on that system in VirtualBox, does he still need the drivers?

There have been so many hardware changes since Vista's day that putting it on your computer is impractical if not impossible. Wither 3 brought up the point of using VirtualBox. That would allow you to run Vista in a virtual environment. You won't be dependent upon finding drivers for Vista. You won't have usb 3 but you will have everything else. Downloads – Oracle VM VirtualBox

I don't know if it's a secret agreement that MS has with manufactures but going back as least as far as Vista when Microsoft releases a new version the manufactures all drop support for older versions of windows on the newer hardware and they don't release new drivers either. On top of that Vista was never popular anyway so that's even less of an incentive to release drivers for Vista. In some cases stopping support is necessary. Take usb 3.0 drivers. It isn't built into Vista or 7 and it never will be. Only 8 and 10 have usb 3.0 drivers integrated into Windows. So you have to install drivers from the manufacturer. Well they stopped supporting the older versions so there aren't any. You have to have an older computer to run an older version of Windows.

As has already been said, you will probably not be able to find drivers for vista for modern hardware.

However If it is the look and feel of Vista that appeals to you there may be options that you can try, this will run Windows ,10 (assuming this is the OS that shipped with the computer), and then using a package that makes the OS look like Vista.

Now, there are a lot of tools available to make Windows 10 look like Windows 7, (W7 was a much more "loved" OS than Vista and was available for much longer ) but there should be packs available for vista

A quick search of Google gave me these options for Vista Themes for Windows 10 ... so options are available ...

Hopefully you can find something that you find usable

Thanks for answering my question townsbg.

I'll stick my neck out and say that most mobos for desktops, not necessarily laptops, do come with both USB 2 and USB 3 connections. Didn't check on the newest Z mobos.

Usb3 drivers are included in my updated media. Easy to integrate into installation, less easy to integrate into boot.wim

For Vista? I know there are for 7.
They are officially “for 7” but nevertheless work on Vista. The same may be true of this NVIDIA driver, but that wouldn’t make much difference to the OP if Vista won’t run on his Kaby Lake CPU, as Vista users who actually test such things have reported.
