I downloaded and installed Spybot but I got an error during installation. I checked their forum and they said that it has to be installed and ran as administrator. I uninstalled it and reinstalled with admin and everything went well.

Right now I'm using Norton until the trial period ends in February. I'm undecided what I'll use after that. I also use Ad-Aware and Secunia (and now SpyBot) in conjunction with online scanners.

So far I have been free of critters.

I've been careful about the permissions I give. The one thing that worries me is encountering webpages that ask to install Active-X controls. I was on one page @ blackplanet.com that had a video on it and I installed the control because I figured it was for the video controls. The thing that worried me about it was when I visited the page again it asked me to install the control again. Is that normal?

Did you save it to a temp folder then clean your cookies or temp files?
It also just had been an update to the controller.

I think I did clean out the cookies, I'm always scanning and cleaning

What was the name of the article you posted from Maximum PC? When I click on the link it tells me I'm not authorized to view. I registered and I'm still not able to view it.

What browser do you use. I recommend Firefox with NoScript.

I just reinstalled FireFox today. I had to do a complete Restore the other day so I just got around to it. I figured I better with all the IE warnings. I love FF anyway!

My teacher just hired me to fix her virus infected computer. She has winXP but its still a virus and i can work with either platform the same. She told me that her computer starts up fine. But when she gets to the welcome screen, the users dont show up most of the time. And when they do, after she clicks on them, it just freezes. Has anyone heard of this? i am in school now but i am gunna start working on it because i told her one day. Anyone have any ideas? i have a few but any other help would be nice.

Sounds more like really crap hardware :huh:

Why dont you just reinstall the OS for her. That will be easier than trying to fight a virus you have never heard of before thats assuming one is even there.

I know if you put your mind to kicking that virus' butt you will succeed Ben

Hey everyone
Has anyone had to deal with any of the viruses in the attachment below. I cant sem to get rid of them. Two of them wont even be removed to start, unthen i the other 4 just replicate. I dont know how to stop this. Any ideas?

Hi Ben,

What have you tried so far?

I would try a Spybot S&D, and a Malwarebytes.

You could also try checking individual files here ...

VirusTotal - Free Online Virus and Malware Scan

you could also try disabling the Comodo AV (not the Firewall ), downloading avast, install and allow it to do a boot time scan

I am so mad. I just saw that they had Antivirus 2009 downloaded. Damn
Now i have to try and get this off
Any ideas how to?
And the computer wont let me run either programs.

Did you try and scan in safe mode? Won't rouge remover from malwarebytes remove that program?
