Internet Explorer 8 released, progress unmistakable

The final build of Internet Explorer 8 has been released in 25 languages. You can also grab the download directly from these links: Windows XP 32-bit (16.1 MB), Windows XP 64-bit (32.3 MB), Windows Server 2003 32-bit (16.0 MB), Windows Server 2003 64-bit (32.3 MB), Windows Vista 32-bit (13.2 MB), Windows Vista 64-bit (24.3 MB), Windows Server 2008 32-bit (13.2 MB), and Windows Server 2008 64-bit (24.3 MB).

The public Windows 7 beta is not being updated, and although Microsoft released an update for IE8 for Windows 7 in February, the next update is not likely to arrive until the Windows 7 Release Candidate next month. For everyone else, in the coming weeks Microsoft will put IE8 out as an optional download on Windows Update and then later roll it out to users via Automatic Updates. A quick note to all the IT administrators out there reading this post: the IE8 blocker toolkit is already available, so make sure you get acquainted with it if you're planning on avoiding IE8 when it's released via Microsoft's update channels.

I miss the dedicated print preview button without a separate action 1st!!

Just right click on the toolbar and click "Customise" and add one.

You might need to unlock the toolbar and expand it to see it, then just move the print preview button to where you want it.

Read this entire thread, and just went to the MS Website and downloaded and installed IE8 on my VISTA Home Premium SP1 64bit and so far so good. I'm watching the 'How To' Videos just to learn as much as I can. I don't notice that much of a speed change from IE7 but speed was never much of a problem on this machine. I do like the IE8.

Because IE8 is superior to IE7. Why not ugprade? Just because everything works doesn't mean it's not worth trying to get things to work better.

I hope you were able to fix your IE8.

Between the admins at rage3d and me tinkering with IE8, the problem is fixed. Someone over at rage "thinks" it was at their end though. Outside of that issue, IE8 works like a charm.

My favorite is when you highlight something, you get the option to do a host of things, including search. In case you didn't know, you can customize your search provider by clicking...

1- "Tools" In IE8
2- "Manage Add-ons"
3- Click "Find more toolbars and extensions..." This will take you to IE8's Add-ons Gallery
4- On the left side of the page click "Search"
5- Choose the search provider you want and click "Add to Internet Explorer"
6- Once the "Add Search Provider" Box opens up, check both "Make this my default search provider" and "Use search suggestions from this provider" boxes.
7- Then click "Add" and your done.

Now... highlight something and right click it (or click the blue arrow box) and your default provider should be there, or...highlight something (or click the blue arrow box) and click "All Accelerators" and you can choose which search engine to use if you have more than one installed :)

You'll also notice a host of add-ons on the IE8 add-ons page :)

(just in case you didn't know this ;))

Steps 1 through 4 can be simplified to: click on the drop down menu for the search box and then choose "Find more providers."

I am curious to see how long it takes IE8 to come through the windows update.

Spending as much time as I can right now studdying the speeds of IE7 so I get a good comparo with IE8.

My Computer
