I know some of u guys have had problems making ur computers go to sleep and i've tried most of the previous suggestions, but i still cant make my computer sleep.

When i click the sleep button, everything starts shutting off (screen, wifi...) but then my cd/dvd drive makes a noise, like it wants to eject a disk and everything comes back on. I have my sleep set to 30 min so basicly it this happens every half hour and it get really annoying unless i turn the computer completely off.

I've only had the computer for a couple of months and i dont think the drive made any noises before going to sleep then so i dont what could have caused this.

I hope someone can help!

So I narrowed it down and turns out that the S1 sleep is not enabled. But when i go into BIOS, power management...there is no option to change the sleep setting. There is only 'USB wake support'. uuugh :/

I had a problem with mine going to sleep and freezing up when I tried to get it up.
Spent 4 hrs with 3 diferent PH Techs before we got the problem corrected. Sorry I'm too much of a newbe to know what they did. For what it's worth I would go to
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options - and re check your settings and
and look a little deeper by clicking some of the headings on the left side of window.
Also interesting that one of the tech's mentioned a possible issue with VISTA and sleep. I wish you luck.

Thanks for the link, unfortunatelly it didnt help. i tried everything but the last couple of things.

It seems like the cd/dvd drive is preventing the computer from going to sleep but i didnt see a wake up option for that device in the device manager.

I'm pretty sure that all the settings in the power options are okay. I checked those like a hundred times.

I also unchecked all the start up programs in system configurations and that still didnt help.

Try disabling the drive in Device Manager, and then try to sleep. If it doesn't work, then we know its not the drive.

Well, if disabling the Drive still had the problem, then its not the drive causing it....

quick question....

does this happen when its on battery, plugged in or both?

okay, i'll try to make this as least confusing as possible...

the sleep doesnt at all when its plugged in. when its running on battery, its a whole different story. it will only sleep when i let the time take its course and after that i can do it manually too. or atleast it let me a couple of times.

PS: the keyboard doesnt wake up the computer. :/

I'm using a wacom tablet and i've been leaving the mouse and pen off the pad. Also, when i went into the device manager, there is no power management tab in either the mouse or keyboard devices.
