again after a clean install 8.11 to 8.12 result in a flikkering display ,was unable to start crossfieX, clean install 8.11 to 9.1 result in display gose in standby mode and back to active mode so 5 times in a minute ,the only thing i could do wha a windows system repair point ,and go back to the 8.11 version. dont know whats rong with ati drivers and my system.

I must say I did not read all the posts!

I just installed new memory and found that after going from Patriot dual channel 1333 DDR3 to the Corsair Dominator 6GB (3 x 2GB )240 pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Core that I lost the drivers for the 3870X2 Sapphire video card. I did notice after getting the ATI catalyst to work that the enable fan speed also worked that it was an open space before. Has anyone else seen this strange problem? Everything is working 100% now. Just dumb luck that it works, I had to use the factory CD to fix it. After getting it to work the Video quality just opened up and is awe sum! The dark background in movies is brighter and more detailed. Even with a regular DVD. I can't explain how I did as I was just playing with everything until it finally worked.

Sounds like an average Catalyst installation to me

It either installs smoothly or makes you dance the "dance of the seven veils" to entice it too install

tnx Airbot for info AND yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees version 9.1 is working perfect compare the vers 8.12, hope 9.2 will not messing it up,it is still a problem here to remove old ATI driver lot's of thing staying on the hdd after uninstall. anny help on that ? tnx

Wow, 9.2 actually worked! And only a half-year later.

EDIT: strike that, it didn't actually install the catalyst control center, just the registration tool.

Known Issues Under the Windows Vista Operating System

This section provides information on known issues that may be experienced under the Windows Vista operating system with the latest version of Catalyst™. These include:
- AVIVO converter may fail to convert h.264 avi video to another format
- “Unsupported file formats” error message dialog may occur when selecting H.264,
mp4 and VC1 file formats
- “CCC Host application...” error message dialog may occur when cancelling a
transcoding process
- Output media file size differs after transcoding multiple times to the same format
- The ATI AVIVO video transcoder does not currently use GPU acceleration under
Windows Vista 64-bit edition
- "World of Warcraft" and "World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King": Flickering
may occur when Shadow is set to medium/high using CrossFire
- Google Sketchup may show blank screen
- Certain resolutions above 10 x 7 might not full screen for specific HDMI displays
- Both LCD and CRT may go blank when hotplugging the CRT to the system, and will
not recover until it is switched to discrete GPU


I think I will wait until the bugs are fixed as the current version is working just fine for me.

First IE8, now new cat drivers. Hmmm...better create a restore point.
