I don't understand a lot of things this program does but for a starter, If I choose to "fix unused file extensions" what does this do? I see file extensions there that I use all the time. For instance .CR2 It's a Canon extension for their RAW images. It's telling me this is an "unused extension" How about this example? Is it safe to run cleaner if you're not quite sure about everything it's fixing? Even if you create a .reg file it seems dangerous unless you know the registry pretty well.

Unused files extensions. That's one of those I do not clean out, based on bad experience. I clean out everything but this one and MUI cache. I make sure the other ones are OK to clean out first. What's MUI cache?

I don't know what MUI cache is. I'm sure we could find out but. I wonder about a lot of that stuff. Missing shared .dlls active x and class issues among others. It would be cool if someone could post a safe list and general ideas of what not to mess with on this program. I have spent the day on Google trying to find out one by one. I am not a beginner by any means but not an expert. I would like to learn about all the stuff this program "fixes".

MUI (Multi User Interface) Cache stores files you run such as .bat and .exe. If you install, say a Windows update named KB12345.exe and then deleted the installer, the installer filename should be in the MUI Cache. But since the installer was deleted, the path to it listed in MUI Cache is invalid tells you that it was removed. Someone correct me If I'm wrong on this :)

Hello Ben, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since your new, I would not recommend using the Registry feature and stick with just the other ones to be safe. Those are pretty safe to use with the default settings.
