Losing internet in any internet browser after 1-2 hours?

It's kinda weird because I can't browse the internet after 1-2 hours after windows startup but I can ping any sites using the command prompt, play any online games, download using my utorrent and update my antivirus. This problem occur last Wednesday I think. Tried to disable then enable again in the network connection but didn't work. The only way to browse again is to restart which is crazy.

Tried:
1) Reinstalling my network driver.
2) Scan for viruses and spywares.
3) Update using windows update
4) Reinstall OS then update again using windows update

Now I reinstall again my OS but didn't update using windows update yet(disabled it). I think the update this month is the culprit but I'm not pretty sure. Right now I don't have any problem with the internet. Anyone here can help me figure out what's the problem?

System:
Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz
2GB DDR2 800 RAM
Seagate 250 GB SATA HD
8800 GT
Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L (I'm using the built-in lan here)
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit

Hello, M3rk, and welcome to the Vista forums

The only thing I can think off to check that is time related is the device Power management, Check in the device manager on the network card properties and ensure that the "Let Windows turn of the power to this device" is set to disabled.

Hope it's this simple :)

There I disabled it but I think my network card is not the problem because my utorrent, yahoo messenger, windows update, and online games is working fine and also I can ping any site(google, yahoo) using the cmd. Only firefox and IE can't connect to the internet. It just load forever. :(

Hi,

Can't say what is causing this but it appears that just the port used for Http, (normally 80 but can vary), is being shut down. as the other functions you mention are passed through other ports.

I can vaguely remember seeing this type of problem some time ago, (during XP days), but cannot remember if a cause was ever isolated.

Now I'm lost. I thought Windows Update is the culprit but internet disappear again but only in Firefox. IE is working fine. I restart my pc again and it works fine again.

barman58, Do you have the latest hotfix installed in your Vista?

My Computer

Am full up to date on vista install, use FF3.05, (update yesterday was 3.04 before that ), as browser, with no visible problems.

Am running intensive tests on the Windows 7 Pre-Beta at the moment but do boot back into Vista regularly and have noticed no problems since the last patch issue or the interim one of the 17th.

Ok thanks barman58.

Now I'm thinking this is a DNS problem. I'm using OpenDNS right now.

I'll report back if it fix the problem or not.

Ok Firefox failed again. IE works fine. Now I'm 100% sure firefox is the problem. I went to there support forum and there are many people having problem with it. LOL.

Oh damn. I'm tired fixing this thing. No internet connection in any browser but YM, online games works. WTF is happening? I'm freaking out here. Help me!!

Firefox is not the problem. I also think it's utorrent but it's not. Now IE doesn't work. I have a fresh vista installed but every time the connection is lost, I can't close firefox, sometimes my YM. I checked my memory modules for errors but no error found. I ping google.com and also this 72.14.205.100 but works fine. I have a firewall installed but it allows firefox for sure because I can browse for a minutes then the connection is lost but as I said I can play online games and sometimes YM works.

Can anyone help me out? Here's my Hijackthis log.

It is most certainly an issue with Vista, perhaps only x64. I had this issue on and off for weeks now. At first, I thought it was my firewall, so I uninstalled, and installed a new one. No help. Maybe my modem was dying? Bought a new one. . . same issue. . .An ISP issue? Nope, everything fine on their part. Was lost until a few days ago, when quite a few other people seem to be posting about the same issue. Anything using Port 80 seems to slam to a halt, only to be just fine minutes or hours later. . .I has something to do with an update sometime about 6-8 weeks ago I'd guess, far too long to do a system restore to try and narrow it down. . . hopefully MS will get it resolved in a near future update.

I tried to sign up in live.com to post in microsoft but it always said that I reached the maximum bla bla bla. WTF is this? I don't use there mail. Now I can't report this serious problem.

BTW, I'm using 32 bit.

Hey, I found out that vista's december update is the culprit on my internet problem. I reinstall my OS without updating and install the usual programs I use then voila! No more problem with my internet.

My Computer

What's with the lol?

I don't know which update cause the problem but I have the updates of September 2008. I think it's the december updates because this problem starts 1-2 weeks ago. Maybe I'll disable windows update until Microsoft release a fix for this.

My Computer

Oh, I apologize, I miss-read your post. I thought you said you'd discovered which update caused the problem. I was laughing because you said (I thought) that you'd found the solution, but didn't tell us!

Though, I believe the problem started in November for me, so longer back than the December updates.

My Computer

Ok. That's nothing. :)

Anyway, I'm sorry I don't know which specific update it cause the problem. But right now, I didn't experience any issue with my internet.

Now I'm moving to x64 maybe later or tomorrow and I hope it will be good.

x64 is vastly superior to x86, none of the bugs that plagued the 32 bit vista seem to be a problem in x64. . . OTHER than this annoying port 80 garbage. . .at least that may help narrow it down a bit, it's effecting x86 and x64, and MAY have been due to an x64 update in November and an x86 update in December. . .any update that fits that description anyone?
