Monitor Will Not Wake Up After Sleep

You asked for ideas-

It might be the PSU is failing. We've gone from a sleep mode problem for your monitor to a problem with starting the computer up.

Thanks Wither!

I have thought about that also. When I go into the sleep mode or the computer has been shut-down for a while (usually overnight), perhaps the power supply just doesn't have enough juice to to get everything going.

I will test a bit more tomorrow. The problem has been that none of this stuff happens with a short sleep, or shut-down. It usually takes hours to fully hours to come out of its shell.

Do you think I should just buy a new computer and be done with it? A new mother-board? Other than these problems, it has been a pretty awesome computer.

Thanks for chiming in again. I appreciate it.

Michael

Power supplies are relatively cheap.

Thanks Wither... power supplies are relatively cheap but not a sure answer so I am done with this problem computer for now. I decided to buy a new one (more powerful and cheaper than my current one).

I do regular back-ups so think I have all my data. But if the hardware was not the issue (I think it is), I would end up reloading the OS (or upgrading to Windows 7 which is also a cost factor) and programs / data and would still require rebuilding the software/data side of things.

Once I have everything I need on the new one, I will reload the Vista OS and see what happens. It will be nice to have both computers so I can make sure everything is there before reloading and donating or selling the existing computer.

I appreciate both you and Rich chiming in on my problem(s) along with your suggestions. I don't know if you can mark this as solved (but in a way it is).

Now, can you help me with my marriage?:sarc:

Of course. Please tell Dr. Wither what the problem is. :D
