My new Gaming Rig...

Those temps are what I'm getting for idle, so it's all good there. Even better than mine since your side fan isn't running. (Just check that the molex plug is actually plugged in. They don't work by magic :p ;))

Have you given that 8GB a couple of passes at 1066 to test for stability? (no matter what I do I can't get my 8GB stable at full speed :()

I also leave my case on the desk permanently to avoid ducking under it all the time :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but again... I don't recall plugging anything before. Of course, I am not 100% sure it worked before either so, I am back to square one.

Have you given that 8GB a couple of passes at 1066 to test for stability? (no matter what I do I can't get my 8GB stable at full speed :()

I am not quiet sure what you mean by that but, if you are talking about stress test with Memtest86 or even everest, the answer is NO... I have not.

I did played FEAR 2 yesterday for a while and the CPU temps were up about 10 degress, which I believe it was to be expected and the GPU temps were about 58 degress, which I also believe should be std.

My G7 was acting up again so I do believe I am going to have to find a wired mouse if I want to play decently, although, I would hate to spend money on a new one and find out is doing the same thing... rats!!!

I also leave my case on the desk permanently to avoid ducking under it all the time :)

I hear you, I am going to think hard about where I should put it because, the case is BIG and it would look ugly on top of the desk... wife's not gonna be to thrill either. :D

FEAR 2 is pretty light on system resources, If you have Crysis or Crysis warehead, give those a run, especially Crysis. Even the original FEAR is more demanding than FEAR 2, especially with everything turned up.

FEAR 2 is as smooth as butter when maxed :) That's one positive to console ports  As Sygnus mentioned, FEAR 2 is light on resource usage. If you want an idea of what max temps your rigs going reach, try running a few passes of Intel Burn Test and watch those temperatures soar. Thankfully everyday apps and games will never reach those temps  If IBT temps stay under the safe limit, then your golden.

It's a great tool to quickly check for stability when Overclocking. Run at least 5 passes at maximum stress with error detection off.

http://www.ultimate-filez.com/files/IntelBurnTest.zip

And sorry, I did mean memtest86+ :o I've had the RAM at what I thought was stable, but has actually failed memtest at the 5 pass mark...so not stable. That's why I'm running my 1100mhz RAM @888mhz with all 8GB :( It wouldn't hurt to leave it run overnight while you sleep.

With your side fan, follow the lead to the molex (4pin) plug and plug it into your PSU's molex cable (rail). If it doesn't work, then the fan is likely foobar....

As for the wife not liking the PC on the table.... pffft :p Explain to her it's better for airflow, collects less dust and is less likely to damage those exspensive new components that you don't want to replace..... ;)

Thanks guys, I'll try that IBT proggie to see what breaks, burns or catches on fire! :D

I was playing fear again, the GPU got to almost 60 degrees and all of a sudden, my pc frooze and did not recovered. I had to do a hard boot in order to get it back. I am thinking that the RAM at 1066mhz is the culprit but that's just pure speculation. The monitor, video and audio drivers are up to date so I can't think of anything else that may be giving me fits.

I may have to go to EVGA to see what are the std temps for the video card but I doubt 60 degrees is the treshold for it.

I am also thinking that once the side 230mm fan is in working order, it should help the Video Card with some better cooling and lower temps... will see.

I may have to reconsider placing the case somewhere else because it is very hard to get to it once its in place and yeah, the wife may not like that decorum (sp?) but, she's going to have to deal with it.

Yeah, I had the same feeling but I am not going to be doing anything (as far as testing it) until this weekend when I decide where to put the new case.

I am having a hard time with my Linksys Router and my new Comcast broadband, along with my new Wireless printer and I gotta get those two issues going before tackling the pc case issue.

Lots of projects during this week but only 1 wife internetless... you do the math! ;)

I have a funny feeling that I am going to have to go back to Dual Booting. Networking is a bit GREEK for me, more so when I have to deal with Vista.

I'm not a huge networking fan either and I hate networking Vista and XP. The last 3-4 times I've networked Vista and XP, the steps I took to get there were different each bloody time. I finally solved the problem by ditching the XP machine and going all Vista :p

If you're trying to network Vista and XP, you'll need to download this file from Microsoft in order for Vista to see XP on the network - Download details: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder (KB922120). This file must be installed on the XP machine(s).

I use a Linksys router to network two XP machines and one Vista and had to install the file on the XP machines in order for Vista to see them. Since I don't have Norton Internet Security or anything like that, I can't tell you how to configure those if need be.

Here are some instructions on networking Vista and XP here - Teach XP and Vista to play nice on networks

Hope this helps

Well, I don't really need to see any of the other 2 PCs but it is a good thing to have just in case I have to so... I'll download those links and go from there.

As far as Security is concern, I only have Windows Firewall, Avast A.V. and Malawarebytes. The less things I have, the less problems I run into and, as you can see... I seem to have enough in my plate already ;)

My inmediate problem is that the Printer is on a Peer-2-Peer network so all of the PCs can print directly instead of plugging the printer on my PC and share it so they can print. I have opened up another thread on the Network and Internet forum and if you guys are not to busy, perhaps you can lend a hand there?

Well, I was finally able to reposition my case, I was also able to plug in the side case fan and it is now working but, I don't know if this is just a freak occurence or if it will always be like that... my GPU jumped from being at 42 to 45c while at idle (without the side fan) to 60 to 64c with the side fan on.

I do not believe this can be normal, unless for some reason, my Everest plugin on my G15 Keyboard decided to stop working or is stuck at this temp, although, it started at 60c and 5 minutes later is now at 65C.

I did not touch anything else, all I did was move the case, plug in the side fan and plug a card reader and 4 usb port hub... I doubt this cause the raise in gpu temps.

All the fans seem to be working and even though the house is at about 75c at the moment, the only noticeable changes I see in temps is from my GPU. CPU core temps are all hovering around 30 to 37c while at idle... same as before.

Also, the higher I turn the fan speeds, the higher the temp of the GPU seems to be at idle. I restarted the PC, went to the Bios and set all the fans to manual and at 100%, got to the Desktop, GPU temp went to 70c.

What other good Temp monitor I could use with Vista x64?

I know Google gives me a lot of options but I would like to use one that you guys know it works as the last thing I want is to install cheap one that will not give me a correct reading.

That's some crazy increase there...

Three possible reasons:

Your new location is blocking the air flow.

The side fan is interrupting the front to back air flow and is stopping the hot air from exhausting properly.

Your VC card fan is set low in the Nvidia control panel.

I personally use Everest Ultimate to monitor temps as I've found it's one of the best. Others you can try:

Speedfan:

I with smarteyeball about Everest, though it'll cost $35 (US) dollars for the full version, It gives a wealth of information and is well worth every penny spent!

You can download the trial version here - Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

Outside of that, the other programs samrteyeball mentioned are good...and free. They're all highly rated and support Vista x64.

But again, if you want a "tell all" program, Everest.

Have I mentioned how much I love you recently?

Seriously I guess I should have searched the tutorials but I have an XP box that just wont come to the network party properly.

Cheers x 100

Okay. I'm jumping in the middle of this. I just download Speed Fan. The program is saying that my core temp is around 49ºC and that has a ^ arrow next to it (Assuming that means higher than it should be). It reaches past 50º C often and has fire next to the degree (Assume this is bad). How do I work this program and how do I decrease my systems temp?
