Hello Oldsew, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you tried everything in the tutorial step by step, then see if using a older restore point can help fix this for you.

OK, I will restore again but can you tell me why this is happening? Is it an update to Vista? This is the 3rd time. Possibly I used the wrong reg. d/l. I think I saw 64 bit somewhere and I have Vista 32.

My Computer

Oldsew,

It can be caused by a number of things such as registry cleaner allowed to delete the wrong registry entries, 3rd party program context menu add on not compatible, etc..... It would be hard to narrow it down unless it happened right after you installed or changed something.

On your #10 step> 10. Click on Run, Continue (UAC), Yes, and then OK when prompted. < This does not happen for me, it just opens in notepad in another notepad window, after I click on "merge", nothing runs, there is no word "run", just the notepad file I saved. suggestions?

Hello Indiad, and welcome to Vista Forums.

That means that your .reg file associations have been associated with the wrong program by mistake.

To fix this, you will need to check in Default Programs (method three at link) to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe).

Afterwards, try merging the REG file in this tutorial again.

Hope this helps, :)

Ok, tried that but the default list does not have "registry editor" in it, just "programs" and the default for .reg is "notepad" my only selections are a MS app, etc. not c:drv choice such as you said.
