Tried both of them but the gave me an error the first one said it failed, and the second one said driver installation failed : could not find the media device for this driver

Thats what I was thinking too , but I'm not sure because it was working fine and the only thing I did was to uninstall the driver because I had some trouble with the sound in a particular game thereafter the system never detected the sound card not even when I installed realtek drivers manually. Is there a way of knowing for sure if the sound card is dead ?

The game was FSX. The sound was working during the game but suddenly i couldn't hear any sound effects and voices although music was still working. That's when I decided to reinstall the driver :(

One last go on this issue I think. Try this software & see if it can find the right drivers?

Driver Detective | Driver Update Software for Windows 7, Vista and XP

I know you need a licence to use it but need to see if it finds something of use.

I have used this before, I have had good & bad experiences from it.

Please post the found, not found information shown on screen.

This is what driver detective found with regards to my sound card, I'm not sure if it will fix the problem so I didn't register yet cause I think all the software would do is to reinstall the driver which I already did without any success. Any opinions on this ?

YOU MUST: -
Back-up any files or folders that you wish to keep before taking any actions below!!!!!!!! If this fails I would do a complete rebuild from your back-up disks or recovery partition.

So this is what happened to me with this or another driver download piece of software was, it updated my drivers & all was wel for a period of time & then I started to get reboots & the occassional Blue screen.

What I did get but I did ignore it though waass a warning that hte driver I was goingto install was not from the computer manufacturer but I installed it anyway. SILLY ME :sick:.

So,

I would let it get your system working & then un-install it. Then at that point let HP update take over again. This will hopefully fix your sound device & then let you carry on as normal. NO GUARANTEES!


I had to do the rebuild option to recover my PC, Sorry :(

Using the software didn't fix my sound issue, although as shown previously in a snap shot it did detect an unplugged device "conexant high definition smartaudio 221 device" the software reinstalled the driver but at a certain point an error poped up saying device counld not be detected.

I guess you will have to try one last thing "The re-build option" if that fails, you will need to replace some hardware (Sound card, if you can get it). Good luck! :sa:

I already restored my laptop to its factory setup but nothing happened. Since my sound card is on board I think I must change the mother board to replace the sound card, so I bought a usb sound card from Ebay and I hope that this at least will get my sound back.

Perhaps yours, as in others, it is a "plug in" card to the motherboard. So you might be able to get one? & swap it out.

Ok then I'll keep yous updated with the outcome after I get my USB sound card and in then mean time I'll check about my exsiting sound card, maybe it's as you said a "plug in" card.
