I thought so. I hope the USB sound card works fine, at least until some other options emerge and my no sound "entertaining" notebook starts to be a bit more of entertaining :)

Just curious is if you finally got this working. I'm having a similar problem with no sound. I can't do a system restore to factory settings because I can't back up my laptop.... seeing that the CD rom drive stopped working . This is so aggravating.

Hi,
The only thing that managed to get my sound back was a small device called a USB 3D sound device, which I bought for a couple of dollars from ebay. Although it's not the best solution, in my case it was the cheapest alternative since it seems that my problem is not software related but it's caused by a damaged sound card (or at least that's what I've been able to conclude) which needs the motherboard to be replaced in order to be fixed, due to the fact that it's mounted directly to the motherboard.
