No wireless signal

My Viao connects to the internet with LAN but it doesn't detect the WLAN. I have done different things and none seem to work. I have also done some trouble shooting through Windows and the system says that the network adapter is not connected and need to be configured? Sony has some drivers and such that might help https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00006787 but they aren't for Vista only for Win7. I checked inside the laptop and the wifi card is properly seated and connected, the wireless light has never been lit. There's also continuity from the adapter all they to the antenna. I've also checked the drivers by going to the device manager and checking for updates under the network adapter and it says that the most current drivers are installed, i've also uninstalled the network adapter driver and installed them back. It's funny because i see the ROKU under the network screen... I'm thinking the WIFI switch might be faulty but that wouldn't make sense since it detects ROKU?

To be more clear Sony offers these two drivers to work with internet but are these mandatory as in- if you can't download those drivers you're screwed? This is what i copied from their site which is provided in the link on top
""Turn on the WLAN adapter with one of the following:

• VAIO Smart Network Utility
• SmartWi Connection Utility ""

What do you mean by you see roku? Can you take a screenshot of device manager at the networking devices? Also one of the network center. Can you also from command line run the command ipconfig /all and then post the results?

Here are the screenshots which i had to take with my phone because Print Screen doesn't work along with brightness adjustment through the keyboard but that's a topic for another day. Btw, the roku only comes up in the network screen when the LAN cable is plugged in.

Windows isn't recognizing the device. It isn't showing up under ipconfig or device manager. To answer your previous question, yes you have to have manufacturer drivers for wireless devices. Those drivers aren't built into Vista or 7. I'm not so sure about 8.1 or 10.

So, my only option is download those drivers from a third party but i'm concerned about downloading malware. Is there a site with a good reputation that you would say it's safe before i go and start messing everything i've done so far to make the laptop work?

Preferably you would get it from the manufacturer's website. Outside of that I don't know which third party sites to trust. You can upload any installers into this site and have them scanned. VirusTotal If it doesn't find any malware than more than likely there isn't any.
