Solved Notification icons issue in XP

Just wonder if the Vista Notification Icons tutorial can be applied to XP system of the same problem.

Hello t-4-2,

From looking at XP's Group Policy settings, it looks like only the Clock notification araicon is available to disable.

I tested the Volume icon option in XP, and it does not work. I'm assuming the others will not work in XP as well since there is not a Group Policy setting for them either.

You are able to hide them in XP, but you'll have the expanded arrow button just like in Vista and Windows 7 though.

I never use an XP, so my next question may appear silly...
What to do for XP users who are missing the notification icons ( clock, volume, network ) from system tray ?
Is system restore the only way ?

Some XP icons cannot be added into the systry.

For sound, check on the popup for operating the volume controls within control panel.

It probably has a click point to show the volume controls on the systray.

I don't remember the network icon ever showing in XP.

For the Network Icon, go into Network Connections, right click on the connection you are using and click "Properties". Bottom of the window, check "Show icon in notification area when connected".

For the clock, right click on the taskbar and click Properties. Check "Show the Clock".
