Post the changes you notice after installing Vista SP2

that is wierd i have used both utorrent and am currently using bitspirit with no trouble at all

Do you have a download limit set? What I have found is that without a limit set and the removal of TCPIP half-max connections limit found in sp2 that on a lower memory system i.e. vista w/2gb memory then if your internet has the bandwidth capabilities torrent clients can slowly consume all of your system resources eventually causing explorer to crash. In my case it was capable of crashing my system within 10 mins. Putting a 500kb down limit on utorrent has resolved the issue.
I've been using UTorrent with no download limit set and have experienced zero problems with my Vista Home Premium 64bit.

I believe it may be an issue with the down speeds capable with my isp, down in excess of 50mbs and on my laptop there just isnt enough power when it starts to reach the upper end of my download capabilities. I can watch as it slowly consumes all memory and processor power. However as I stated before capping the down speed resolved the issue. However on my desktop no issues yet.

I saw this earlier in the thread. I used the Tutorial on Folder View posted by Brink on this site before and that did not solve my Details view problem but the SP2 seems to have solved it. So now I am reluctant to try something that might screw up the working Details views that I have now... Could this possibly screw that up? If it did would a System Restore fix it back?

try this, I have had my details view same ever since

I notice that system information correctly displays detected ram when over 4gb is installed. It was stuck at 4gb in sp1. Also network reconnection is instant when resuming from sleep/hibernation.

One bug i did encounter was laggy web browsing in IE8 (Which i had installed before sp2) A quick reinstall did the trick.

After reading this I discovered I am in same situation; the link provided by JMH is just so muck 'Greek' to me and like MS does not offer a solution. Is this serious enough to be concerned about and is there a way to fix this?

Uninstalled Service Pack 2 - Here's why:

1. Big problem with the Windows Sidebar. Gadgets loose their place and appear in random positions within the sidebar upon every boot.

2. Slow Boot. The boot process seemed slower than usual. Pre-SP2 boot was very quick, while SP2 seemed to remain on the Login page for an extended time.

3. Excessive HDD activity. After installing SP2 the HDD seemed much more active, even though the Windows Indexing and Windows Search features had been disabled.

4. No apparent benefits. I connect to the internet using a wireless modem, and while SP2 includes wireless networking improvements these seemed minor. These minor improvements do not seem worth the upgrade and the related bugs the upgrade causes.

I have now removed SP2 and back with SP1. The system is working again as well as it always has. I cannot recommend this update.

OK...
I installed SP2 @ 05:14 est today; it is now 07:00.
it took from download to install then auto reboot 17mins - wireless laptop vista hm prem 32bit verizon FIOS.

I'm so happy that the update for .NET 3.5sp1 is GONE:D I was never able to install anyway.

I find no difference in wireless network ( or don't know where to look )
no difference in shutdown.
I have tried most of my apps and they seem fine.

the only issues I find are:

1.) reboot/bootup is longer by 23seconds tested 10x (I defrag regtry and C:drive )
2.) I have a new program running that I don't know of--see attached
3.) still can't update office live add-in

that's it so far

your boot time should improve after a week or so, remember vista optimizes boot times on its own. for me i noticed better file handling in windows itself, have you noticed that?

I finally took the plunge and installed SP2 via Windows Update. First I backed up all my important data to external HD, turned off Avira AV, disabled Outpost Firewall 2009, ran update and followed all instructions on screen. 17-20 minutes later, install program finished without a problem :D Defragged HD and noticed a slight improvement upon opening files, FireFox 3.0.11 opens faster, and lost all my System Restore points except the one created by SP2. Just glad there was no BSOD's or error messages during installation.

Time will tell...

running vista ultimate sp2 32 bit and explorer 8

I installed sp2 took about 45 minutes, no problem with download and install,:)

But!! since installing ie will not open websites that I have been to many times before. even some microsoft web pages and download pages.

I get an error message that exporer has encountered a problem and must shut down.

if i click the pop up in the icon tray it leads me to system.advanced.performance. dep. I've tried several different setting but still same problem.

Tried running as admin and sometimes this will let me download, sometimes it won't.

any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Oh yes one more problem, my other computer can't print to my shared printer since installing vista sp2 on this computer. (Other computer running xp sp3).

Tried reinstalling printer on xp machine, it installs fine! but when i try to print test page I get can't find printer error.

I can still access shared folders on xp machine, and access vista shared folders from xp machine so network connection still working but still won't print from xp machine.

Thanks for listening, wreckless

Hello wreckless,
For the IE8 problem i would disable all addons and see if that helps, if it does, enable them one at a time to see which one is the culprit.

Hi,
Well, after I installed SP2, and restarted the computer I got some strange error on the screen saying some string was wrong but I hit ok, and it booted up fine. I have been running with no known problems other than it seemed to have changed the way my battery backup is setup. When I put my computer to sleep, it seems to not be communicating with the battery backup. When I wake my computer it says that communication with the battery backup was lost and quickly says that it has been restored! I don't know how to fix this. My concern is that if we have a storm at night, my backup will not work when my computer is sleeping, thus not allowing me to shutdown properly! I just posted this, so I hope to get some responses back. Good luck...

Don't worry, the computer is simply asleep and subsequently as it states not communicating, however the UPS is still in standby, not shut down, for power reserve if needed.
Most backup power supplies communicate in order to shutdown successfully if it loses ac while you are working on it.

That is good to know! Thank you very much. So, then eventhough it tells me that the computer lost communication with the backup, and there is a power outage, my backup will still kick in and then let me shut down the computer normally? I wonder why the msg. has popped up now after running SP2? Maybe it was always like that but in SP1 there was nothing in the code for it to tell me this when I wake my computer up from sleep mode!
Addie

My Computer

Yes, my does the same thing. If you are working on the computer, depending on how much time you have it set for, it will tell you that it has lost ac so yes you may shut it down. Some include a program to auto shut down in a certain preprogrammed time if you are away from the computer and it is not in the sleep mode.
