Random Shutting Down

I love Megz answers and system specs ("4gig Quad Core!" lol). But anyway download what i said it will make it easier for us to help.

My Computer

I think it's telling me my CPU fan is running at approx 3267 RPM.
Then there's some other things that are just blank

Next pane says Motherboard Voltage:

V. Score = 1.14 V
Memory = NA
PCI-E = NA
3.3V = 3.34V
5V = 5.12V
12V -12.14V

Next pane says Motherboard Clock

FSB = 333MHz
Clock = 2830MHz

Then it has my CPU usage

Hopefully that's helpful I don't want to download any more stuff than I have to...especially things I have no idea how to use.

If I understand correctly, this only happens on a cold boot? (as opposed to a "warm" reboot)

Does it happen on EVERY cold boot? If not, does the length of time the machine has been off seem to make any difference?

Does it happen if you boot into safe mode (hold F8 during startup) from a cold boot?

My Computer

How cold is the room it is in? Computers don't like it below 70F if off.

We keep it pretty warm in here, usually around 65 -70.

As to the rebooting it happens every time, as I found out today. Even if I just restart (what I'm guessing is a warm restart) it does it, as well as a 'cold' restart when it's been totally shut down (not just hibernating) for 8+ hours.

Iv only ever seen this problem "Windows will be shutting down in less than a minute." if i go into task manager and delete a process thats vital to Vista running.

I think one of your main processes isnt starting properly or is crashing.

My Computer

Alright. I misunderstood your initial description then.

Does it happen if you boot into safe mode?

My Computer

Well I just tried to reboot it in safe mode (held F8 but nothing seemed to happen).
However this time it didn't happen. I actually shut it down and restarted, as opposed to earlier when I was just selecting restart from the menu.

Or maybe I started it in safe mode, but usually (like if power goes off or my kids hit the button and force a shut down on my computer) it tells me it's starting in safe mode.

Login as administrator. Go into Event Viewer. Right click on each category and clear them without saving. Once they are all empty. Reboot. Log in as administrator and see what errors you have.

Well now it's not trying to shut down on me...which is odd.
The only thing I can think that I did different is that I didn't try and turn User Account Control on.

Oh yea, as for errors all I got was

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
i8042prt

and

Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number.

Under system.

Kerberos is only used for AD-domain authentication, so by itself a lack of kerb capability will not be causing this. (It does once again suggest that something might potentially be trying to slowly deactivate the security mechanisms on your machine, but let's put that uneasy feeling aside for a bit :)).

Personally, I's suggest that you reboot several times until you're quite confident whether booting to safe mode makes a consistent difference to the outcome. The troubleshooting path will be different depending on whether safe mode always works.

My Computer

No, you have either a Trojan horse or you installed a non-Vista application that overwrote a DLL or process that Vista needs. By clearing the event viewer and restarting, you can see what the problem is.

I dont want to confuse anyone but with just a quick google "i8042prt" seems related to keyboard/mouse.

Have you updated the drivers for these recently?

My Computer

I did just check those because I looked up the help section for that error and they're all up to date. My mouse doesn't connect through the mouse port but the USB port, same for my keyboard, I don't know if that might be confusing it.

Also I just turned UAC back on and restarted and it tried to boot me again.

Only error I got is the same as before:

Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number.

I don't think I'm doing safe mode right

Just mash the F8 key on the keyboard once-per-second during the earliest boot phases. It might beep at you if you overflow the keyboard buffer, but don't be put off :)

i8042prt.sys is the PS/2 keyboard driver. The box is presumably using a USB keyboard if you're still able to type in Windows.

My Computer

Couldn't make f8 work for me but I did get it into safe mode using msconfig.
Didn't try to reboot me when I logged in on safe mode, but when I restarted again into normal mode it tried to reboot me.
