Does this work for Vista 32bit as well? I ask because the OP was for 64bit.

The solution in 3 easy steps:

1) Run As Administrator - CMD Prompt
type: sfc /scannow
Let it finish and reboot.

2) Download and Install these files:
a. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
b. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
c. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
d. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
e. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)

f2) adobe flash player
f3) adobe shockwave player

Hello MerdockMoe and welcome to the forums :party:

If you're experiencing a problem, I recommend you start your own thread in the relevant section, this way we'll be able to address your issue alone :)

I don't know whether you'll have success from doing this, but those packages will certainly work on 32 bit - so that procedure is for both 32bit and 64bit.

a. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)

x86 is another way of saying 32bit :)

I'm having this error, side by side configuration is incorrect. It started suddenly, and has affected several / all programs. HERE is the biggest problem ... I tried to follow the steps about going to command prompt, doing the scannow (those two steps were successful, after I searched and found how to get admin access to my own computer!) ............ but then I assumed the "reboot" part of your instructions meant to reboot the computer. So I restarted it. Was I not supposed to do that? Because now when I try to follow the steps to download and install the c+++ files, I can download them, but I get the same "side by side..." error trying to install them! Please help!? How can I download and install the files that are supposed to fix this problem if I cannot install because of the same error message as when I try to open my programs? :( Simple instructions would be very much appreciated. I also already forgot how I got admin access so I'll have to search for that again if what I have to do requires admin ability. I thought I had a virus when all this started, but I can't access my virus program; I could not install active x controls when I tried to use symantec's free virus scan online. I'm so lost and I need to be able to use my computer. I hope someone can give me instructions I can actually follow that won't continue to give me the side by side error problem. Thanks so much. Laura
I wanted to note that I also followed some instructions about sxsTrace but I can't find the TXT file anywhere, not even when I searched for it. What the heck? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm almost afraid to shut down my computer. After further reading, it occurs to me that all 32 bit things are not working, only 64 bit. The only thing on my computer I even know is 64, is the browser I'm using right now! That's a clue; but, I still don't know how to fix the problem if I can't install the c++ because they are 32 bit installer. Am I really stuck with no choice but to format and start over?

I tried to restore, twice, selecting different dates each time. Unsuccessful. I took my computer to a friend tonight and left it with him. Hoping he can fix it for me! If not, i'm not sure my next plan. He seems very confident and he's been working on them for years so i'm hopeful. Last I heard from him I had four viruses.. I'm sure that wasn't helping ! But i'm doubting that was the actual cause of this problem. If he gives me any detail on the fix I'll post it here or ask him to.

Thanks. This solution even worked with Windows 7.
