Hi Sassofalco,

We don't call them 'wet backs', but I knew what you meant. Hence the wink, wink. Several of my friends have them. Several of them also have hot water baseboard heat incorporated. I have a small air tight stove in the living room that heats the whole house very comfortably although it makes the air a bit dry. I keep a small pot of water on top of the stove for that. If I load it right full, it will heat for 10-12 hours without tending. Don't do that unless I'm leaving for that period of time. I only burn 4.5-5 cords of wood a year that I cut and split myself, so heating the house for the winter is generally less the $100, mostly gas for the truck, saw and splitter. Maybe a couple 6 packs & lunch for a helper if I have one. Not bad these days.

Ahhhhh! Nostalgia! Been there done that. Ain't nothing like cutting and splitting firewood to keep fitness, and maintain powers of concentration and contemplation. Then there are the aromas of burning pine, old apple and peach trees, or whatever, and the 'snap, crackle and pop' in the firebox. And the beer after 5 cords [that's 5 times of 8'x4'x4' piles of cut and stacked wood, Folks!...and I haven't used the 'cord' word since Nineteen hundred forgotten!], is a well earned quencher.

My hat off to you Gary. It's great to see some of the old ways still being retained.
My own Grandfather [a Doctor] was a'cuttin' and a'splittin' and a'smokin' his pipe, well into his nineties, and my Dad at 88 continues.

PS. Maybe a nostalgia Thread in Chillout should be the go! "Remember when?", could get some of the 'oldies' out of the woodwork! I'm sure that Norm would be a starter, plus a few others....
