Please Help Guys,

Almost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass. Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:

Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001
This copy of Windows is not genuine
.

My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine.
Please Help me find a fix which will stop these messages from coming up again.

Call Microsoft support. When did you get it? Where did you get it? Can you call your vendor and ask them why?

Sounds like calling Microsoft would be the easiest solution, provided they even know how to fix it. Why dont you want to call them? If your software is legit, then you should have no problem with them, even if you got it through your school.
Also, you could try reinstalling Vista.

You got a copy of Vista from your school? Did they give you a proper license to install with it? What OS was on it before? I would consider going back to the previous OS and get it working.

Hey super_js

If you want to continue using Vista the only way out of this problem is a phone call you will probably need your certificate of Authenticity to hand,

I presume that your dad will be a lot less stressed if you explain things to him.

Your only other option is a previously suggested, to go back to your old OS

There was a huge flap over WGA posting erroneous messages on Windows XP machines a year or so ago. It had good honest folks wigging out all over the place.

The Quick Fix was to just delete all the WGA files off of the HD and turn off automatic updates.
That was a lot easier than dealing with BIG BROTHER (M$).

This has nothing to do with WGA. However, getting a copy from school complete with key does not necessarily mean a thing. if it is a MAK (Volume License) and you registered with your name and they don't know you're associated with the school, they might tag it as fake.,

FWIW - I have had to call M$ numerous times when stetting up labs at school - and never once have I been charged.

If it is legit, call them. The fastest I had a problem solved was under 4 minutes, the longest it took me was 15 minutes.

And, no offense, but if you don't want to call them, then please don't keep asking for help - we've all said the same thing, and if you don't want to call them that is on you.
