At websites where I can view pdf files, I am unable to save them to my computer. The icon that permits this function does not even appear. I am using Vista Professional and Adobe Reader 9.
Thanks.

Is the document you are trying to download restricted in any way?

Before it "disappeared," the mesage I got was something to the effect "don't have permission to save" or, simply, nothing would happen (i.e., the file did not save).

Sounds like it is a restricted document or it has copyrights.

My turn to say John is right. You can verify that be trying to save a pdf from a different site.

I have subscription rights to the PDF documents and can save them (same pdf files) when using my desktop that has XP. The problem exists only when using my laptop that has Vista. Maybe there is some third variable accounts for the glitch, but I figured considering Vista was a place to start.

McGirk, I presume you did what Ken said and tried other sites. If this is the case have your looked at the security options on your Vista laptop? I have had Vista since the day it came out and have never had a problem downloading pdf's.

Thats it exactly. You have a certificate for the right in XP, but not in vista. all you need to do is to set it up in vista

Yes, I have tested trying to save pdfs from other sites, and the problem remains. (gulp) which security options may need to be changed?

If it persists on non certificate sites it must be something else.

EDIT: lets try something else. type event viewer in search. go to the windows logs, application tab. look for errors (red "X" in left column) that refer to the problem. You might want to do it one more time so you know when it occured. there will be errors. when you find one that mentions adobe, or saving note the event ID and source codes and tell us what they are.

thanks

Thank you. I went into the event viewer, application tab and looked for errors. Although there were many errors, there were none for Adobe or saving.

If you create a pdf and try to save it to the same place can you?

Yes, I can create my own pdfs (using, for example, Quickbooks software) and save them. I can view pdfs online and can print them. But I cannot download from a website for saving because there is simply no icon that permits that option. When viewing online pdfs, icons show up for printing and searching, but not for saving.
Thank you,
McGuirk
