unexpected shut down please help??

my computer has had this problem for a wile now it normally occurs when im installing a program or have a big program open such as sims 3 or 2 im only 16 and don't know 2 mush about computers iv tried to restore the pc to its factory settings to see if that would help but i wouldn't let me any help would be apeshiated thanks

Hi sarah, welcome to vista forums, can I just ask what happens when it shuts down, is it just a straight turn off or is it a blue screen?

If it's a straight shutdown then it maybe because your computer is overheating, It can be fixed by taking it down to your local computer store and they should be able to clean it out for you with a high powered air hose, if it's a blue screen then it maybe down to a driver error.

ok sarah, we need to find out what parts your computer is using so we can find the right program to install, can you go to the start menu and type in the bottom search bar "dxdiag.exe":


press enter and it'll bring up this window:


now go to the display tab and click on it:


and where it says on mine "name", can you tell me what it says to the right of that?

once we have done that, we can then focus on finding the driver you need

ok, can you download these drivers here and install them for me and see if that helps the issue that you're having NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

You really need to know the 1st number from the blue screen, its like 0x0000003b,

Updating drivers randomly can lead to more issue.

the download thing diednt work and
it came up with this when i asked it to chek for a solution

You need to check your memory.

Vista has a crappy memtester, but its a good start.

Goto the control panels and then to admin tools.

Click the Memory diagnostic tool, and run that. It'll test your ram/memory.

iv done it and it fond no problems thats all it told me

Darn... I guess you might want to go to C:\Windows\Minidump
Zip up the files into 1 and attach them to your post.
