Yes, I got it but I'm not great with logs either. I would still recommend to backup anything that you do not want to lose and do a clean install. :(

I got this error- similar, but I don't get logged on w/ temp profile:
"The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"

Can't find a way around it to get to a start menu to make changes or anything like that.... Can you help ASAP??

I just bought this Dell a few months ago. I know it's Windows Vista, I am prety sure 64 bit... I think Premium????

Hi I'm so glad I stumbled upon this tutorial since I could definitely relate to the situation right now! I first went through the "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." link, but that didn't do anything for my situation, so it had to be this link. Sadly though I have hit a roadblock on step 6. I have regedit open, and I'm on ProfileList right now, but unlike the other folders you mentioned, I only have these four:

S-1-5-18
S-1-5-19
S-1-5-20
S-1-5-21-2693682360-2196015141-1088894918-500


None of these have .bak or .bk in them, and I clicked on the long numbers folder, but under ProfileImagePath all that shows is the profile I am currently under (C:\Users\Administrator). Any help? Please and thank you.

Well here's my story then. I recently had to use my restore CD that came with my laptop due to a huge virus. I backed everything up and did a factory restore. This was Thursday. Once my laptop restarted, I placed everything back in they're right places (documents under 'documents', pictures, music, ect.) including some icons on my desktop. I had to restart my computer for updates to finish. Once I restarted, EVERYTHING that was in the documents/music/pictures/desktop folder was deleted. I also got that annoying pop-up in the lower right corner saying I was logged on a temp. profile. I thought this would be the right tutorial for me since it sounds like my situation. Geek Squad told me I should just do factory restore again since I was one of the unlucky few in this world whose factory restore CD didn't work properly, but was hoping this tutorial would be my solution. Can you help me now I don't think a system restore would help me in ANY way possible this has been a problem since I restored this computer on Thursday.

Did you scan your backup for a virus to make sure it was clean before copying files over and reinfecting your computer?

As a test, create a new administrator account to see if it works properly.
