Vista 64 Audio Problem?

well, I've tried to install the realtek drivers, but nothing happens. I run the setup, it tells me to restart and there's nothing. Device manager still says the same. and No new options under any sound file.

My Computer

In device manager choose update driver and locate the unzipped drivers in a local search. Then reboot.

It doesn't give me the option to update drivers in the device manager. I can uninstall and then it finds it again, or I can disable. There's no other option for updating drivers. When I search for drivers in the file where i saved realtek, it searches and then says the device is up to date. And when I pick from a list, thats the only one selectable.

My Computer

What does dxdiag say when you enter that into the start menu, in the sound tab - what date for the driver?

If thats the date the update wasn't installed. You sure you can't right click the entry in device manager and choose update?

Choose browse the computer and extract the realtek drivers. You downloaded the .zip versions of the drivers, right? Not the .exe. You need the .zip. Extract that, then tell device manager to search that.

Ok, I was finally able to install the Realtek HD audio drivers. I had to select the program from the list and uncheck the box that says "click for compatible software."

However, on installation there are now no volume options for anything. And there is a yellow triangle on the realtek driver in device manager.

The version I have is the latest from the site, dated oct 12. 2009.

hhmm.... i'm back hopefully to give useful info this time lol. Try seeing if there are any settings in the user account your on that are conflicting with your sound.. Create a new user on your computer and see if your sound is working. If this resolves your issue, you know it is preference related (for example, some kind of setting in another program), if not, its possible it is system wide and the root cause would be something like hardware, drivers, device, etc. If you think it could be hardware related, try installing the previous OS and see if the hardware works, i know thats an overkill, so that'll probably be your last resort. Hope this helps you in atleast narrowing things down....

I actually just spent about 3 1/2 hours reinstalling vista and setting up new user profiles and still nothing. This computer was built from the ground up and I've checked all the hardware as far as connections inside and everything is good there and I've researched the motherboard extensively and there's not problem like this that I could find that wasn't vista related. There's no sound card, only onboard audio.

My Computer

I'm actually wondering at this point, if buying a sound card would actually fix this? or would I still have the same problem with USB and mic inputs?

I hate that you'd have to buy a sound card, but you can pick some up pretty cheap.

Maybe there is some kind of incompatibility with vista and your hardware ?? Even though i looked up your mother board and... i want one lol. It sounds like you have reinstalled vista 64 bit.... Just to see if Vista 64 is the root cause, try installing XP or something other than 64 bit vista. Otherwise you can go out and see if a new sound card will resolve your issue. Seems like your in to music with your guitar and mic and what not, there are some nice sound cards out there for relatively cheap (Check newegg.com)
