In that case my advice is to stick with XP. In-place upgrades from Vista to Windows 7 nearly always fail in any case, and it certainly does not bode well that the Vista SP1 standalone installer (which has no prerequisites) is failing. Edit: If you're including a CBS log, your Vista media must be corrupt.
Too late for that. Already upgraded to Vista. I've been in the repair business for 18+ years now. And have done many XP - Vista - 7 upgrades without fail or issues. This particular one has just gotten the better of me.
I didn't know that you could upgrade from XP to vista. Have you turned off antivirus? Have you tried google?

I have tried to install service pack 1 five times with the same out come each and ever time. I've done the drivers and I think that they are signed and the updates are up to date. I have checked their history and the ones that did not install or were canceled have been reinstalled. There is no...

On 7/12/08 Windows Update decided to apply SP1 to my VISTA Home Premium installation (on Dell Dimension E520). After a couple of hours everything seemed complete (Step 3 of 3 100%). The process hung for about 15 mins, then said, Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Another hour or...

I've been all over Google. There are a few reasons and solutions for the revert at 100%. But none I have found apply to this. In the CBS log you can see this -

KB938371 appears to maybe be the culprit. So I've attempted to reinstall it. But then get a message that it does not apply. So after a few registry changes pertaining to this KB, I was able to get it to reinstall. But, SP1 still fails and the same error persists in the CBS log.
