Vista won't play battlefield 2 HELP!

I just got my new gaming rig up and running this past weekend and BF2 is one of my favorite games. I too got the quick flash and back to the desktop when I started BF2. I tried the video settings, running in XP compat mode...nothing. The fix was simply to be logged onto the PC as an administrator, right click the BF2 short cut icon and select "run as administrator". Fired right up :) Doesn't seem to matter what my video setting are (running at max right now with Sapphire Radeon HD 4870) or if running in XP compat mode.

I tried that. :(

Well looks like I am going to have to pay through the roof and go to Geek Squad to get it going. God **** this sucks. Now my computer is going slow, it took 1 minute to open up this site alone!

Hey...before you do anything rash like taking it to the Geek Squad (LOL)..have you gone over to the Asus forums and posted your issue? From reading this entire thread , just about everything software related has been thrown out there for you. Here's the link to the Asus forums.

Good luck and PLEASE post back here if and when you find the fix so others can benefit.

Hello Asus ... I am running BF2 on Vista Home Premium 32. Had a similar issue when I first installed. Try uninstalling the game completely and reinstall. It's possible that the game installed fine but some files may have been corrupted. It's a pain, but beter than paying Geek Squad. As far as your rig running slow, run disk clean up then defrag (after uninstalling the game) then reinstall BF2 ... it might help. Good luck

riley...are you running BF2 through the EA Download Manager or from disk? The Download Manager has been the source of just about all crash to desktop issues which started in April. I had the same problem getting kicked every 5-10 minutes, until I uninstalled the EA DM and reinstalled from disk. Everything is fine now and not one PB error or kick from online game since.
