Your mouse should have nothing to do with loss of data files.
If you repaired your installation of Vista files may be still intact.
If you reinstalled Vista and performed a destructive reformat of the drive, or reinstalled over your Vista installation, and did not back up your data prior to installation, then all data is lost.

Boot up as the administrator. See if a new profile was created and your pictures are in an old profile.

What type of disc do you have for the computer and what sort of machine is it, is it a desktop or laptop.

If you only have a recovery disc and you put that into the machine and start it that will take the machine back to the way it was when you bought it so losing anything you put onto it.

Tell us what make and model your machine is so we have a better idea of what you have.

Is it a recovery disc, although I would think it probably is, and have you used it to reinstall Vista ?
What model number is your machine, you should have received some sort of paper work with the machine that told you all about it.

missdread,

I know that you are having problems and are not computer savvy....why don't you take your computer to a computer repair shop or try to find a PC technician to take it to?

It will cost you some money but I'm sure some technician will be able to directly help you in recovering your computer.

This might be your only way to recover your files and reinstall, fixing your problems.

I think I'd follow Airbot's advice and take this to someone local, it is very hard trying to help from a forum like this when we can't actually see the machine and the person we're trying to help isn't very good with computers.
Although if you have actually used the recovery disk and reinstalled Vista the chances are that you have lost your files.

Sorry but I don't think we will be able to help you further.

My wife has an emachine desktop. The disk that comes with it is an OEM O/S disk.
If you did not back up your documents/data files and reinstalled the disk then all your data is unrecoverable without using recovery software or a data recovery specialist. The cost ranges from approx $65 for the software to $100+ for a recovery specialist.
Deleting files doesnt really "delete" them. Essentially look at it like this: You hard drive is a book, a file is a chapter. When you "delete" a file all you are really doing is ripping the chapter's page location from the table of contents. The data is still there (just as the book's chapter is still there), but the address table for it (table of contents listing) is gone. If you can rebuild that address table, you can find and recover the data- unless it has been overwritten.

Did you not use Vista's file backup utility? You should always have a backup in the event of catastrophic failure.

Do not use 2sqare antivirus. I do not even think this is a legitimate antivirus product. I have never seen it tested in any AV-Comparative, and as such it is probably the reason your computer got messed up in the first place.
Use something alittle better. Like Avast!
download, save to you computer and run this:Download FREE antivirus software - avast! Home Edition

note- if you mean a-squared AntiMalware, I still recommend you switch to Avast!
