Tried running the R5 patch and it did the same thing as the last update. It extracted the files and threw up a chinese menu which I closed and it said it couldn't open the "output" file.
If Supermium 119 is still installed and working, it might be best to forget about trying to update it. If you get a Windows 11 PC, you could use professional-grade browsers such as Chrome or Edge that demand no particular knowledge to receive updates.

If I was still running Windows Vista, using Supermium, and wanted to update it without completely removing my earlier version first, I would do some reading! I would carefully read this GitHub page, which was pointed out by VistaLover on page 58 of MSFN’s now-66-page thread on Supermium in which no one has ever mentioned a screen in Chinese. (I don’t think the developer is Chinese. I do not know him personally, but his MSFN account has a Canadian flag and his written English is better than most.)

Update from Supermium 122.0.6261.85 Hotfix (R2) to Supermium 122.0.6261.152 (R4) doesn't work · Issue #531 · win32ss/supermium

Well, I logged onto my secondary hard drive with Vista and ran the R5, after making sure all the controls for the file applied to the system, me and anything else. Installed quickly and works great. That drive never had 360 Chrome. Then, I tried installing the same R5 file on my primary hard drive and I lost Supermium completely. Can't even install the original version 119.................................. Might try a system recovery tomorrow. Using Opera at the moment.

Glad to hear that R5 “works great”! Meanwhile, someone at MSFN mentioned on Sunday that R6 has been posted at GitHub. It sounds like there is currently no browser on your “primary” drive that could even download files from GitHub, which uses very up-to-date JavaScript. I don’t know of anything older than Chinesium 360 that might work. (Please don’t refer to anything made in China as Chrome, which is the name of a browser made by Google - although it was definitely a Chromium fork.)

Okay, as often asked, "splain this to me Lucy." Yesterday, when I lost Supermium on my primary hard drive, running the desktop Chrome.exe shortcut resulted in a message that said Chrome.exe had either been deleted or removed from the path specified in the shortcut. I was able to verify that Chrome.exe was not in the specified path. In addition, a search of my C: drive for Chrome.exe came up negative. This morning, I decided to copy the Chrome.exe from my secondary hard drive to the path specified in the desktop shortcut on my primary drive. However, I accidently double clicked on the .exe file and it opened Supermium 119 from my primary drive with all the customizations I made over the last month or so. "Splain it to me Lucy."

Then I decided to go with the copy of Chrome.exe as mentioned above, to the appropriate location on my primary drive. When I tried to
run Supermium from the desktop shortcut, I got a side-by-side error.

A little more information. As mentioned, the Chrome.exe from R5 opens Supermium 119 with all my customizations. However, I just checked the Supermium version and it said its 122.......................................152, which is R5.

...HitmanPro has found 3 malware in the core of Thorium...
Lately there has been considerable discussion of malware detections in both Supermium and Thorium at MSFN, found by uploading files to VirusTotal. These might all be false positives, but I cannot offer any assurances of that myself.

Another alarming development is that GitHub has taken down the win32ss account. Developer win32 has posted in MSFN’s Supermium thread to say that he is appealing GitHub’s action, that the following link is “the official Supermium website,” and that “there is no malware in Supermium.”

...GitHub has taken down the win32ss account...
The win32ss/supermium account at GitHub is public again today, which is encouraging. The other official Supermium Web Browser site might be friendlier toward older web browsers on XP/Vista that can’t deal with GitHub’s JavaScript.

i use FireFox ESR and chrome 9 on my MWVU but i use FireFoxESR more

Hi Astral:

I don't know what you mean by "MWVU", but if you are referring to your Vista machine please note that support for Chrome on the Win XP and Vista platforms ended after the release of Chrome v49 in April 2016 (see Google's announcement <here>), while support for Firefox for Win XP and Vista ended after Firefox ESR v52.9.0 was released in June 2018 (see Mozilla's announcement <here>).

I suggest you try using either or Supermium (a fork of modern Chrome) or r3dfox (a fork of modern Firefox). Both these browsers are compatible with Vista SP2 and have all the security patches included with recent releases of the "parent" Chrome or Firefox browser. You can also install modern browser extensions in these browsers - for example, the reputable uBlock Origin adware and pop-up blocker available <here> on the official Mozilla Add-on site can be installed in r3dfox. AFAIK the main drawback with these browsers is that both only offer English language interfaces.

Keep in mind that using a supported browser like Supermium or r3dfox will improve your browsing security, but this does not eliminate other risks associated with using a computer running an unsupported Vista SP2 OS that reached end-of-support on 11-Apr-2017.

Thank you very much, I will install supermium ...

The Supermium link provided by Imacri gives me a “403 Forbidden” error on my iPhone for some reason!? Maybe try the link I posted above 15 months ago:
