Whats the first thing you do when you format?

Well, whats the first thing you do when you format your computer? :huh:
I usually run the Driver CD from Asus, then i install Auslogics Boostspeed and Vista Manager, enter the Performance Thread and choose some Tweaks for my Computer.
I uninstall all the BLOATWARE, disable some unused services from Vista and a priority:
-Disable the Sidebar...

Update all the drivers i need, Defragment my computer because windows comes with many fragmented files, clean my registry with registry cleaner, run a scan disk, run disk cleanup, adjust the power options so that when i close my Pc, my PC doesn`t sleep.

Adjust some settings at the Vista Manager, do Readyboost, disable UAC, Enable all files to be ready for archiving and disable the Index Searching.
Install some applications, configure my applications, and after all applications are ready and well configured, i install all my games. And after that, i run a Scan Disk, Defragment Filles, Clean my registry and do a disk cleanup.

After that, i`m ready to go.. LOL

Install OS; install service pack; patch OS; install motherboard drivers; install graphics drivers; install sound drivers; defrag... always in that order.

Install OS; Service Packs; change page file [constant size]; Firewall/AV [unless I can stay disconnected and get these things from a disk]; Windows Updates; mobo drivers; vid drivers; other drivers; defrag; setting/services; programs; defrag.

Nah you don't need to install the OS, waste of time doing that.


I have a folder on my second hard drive which has all the setup files for stuff like firewall, AV, drivers etc, which I all install first. Then let Vista update, before putting my programs back on. When I have all the necessary stuff then I'll defrag and begin using the PC normally.

I used to do that, and couldn't figure out why my XP install kept crashing.. Three formats later I figured out I had a virus on that second HD, and it hitched a ride every time :eek:

He is almost as good looking as me. I didn't get the nickname of Yuck at work because I was a movie star. However if you notice you see a lot of fine looking ladies with ugly men. The contast makes they look even better.

+1. Absolutely positively in that order. Learned that the hard way with older ATI drivers for my x1650Pro512AGP card when I was testing and then first running Vista on the old machine - if I installed drivers for my older hardware before installing SP1, SP1 would not install.

Forgot to add that myself, I usually prepare with food and drink as I know I'm in for a long night when I format my PC.

I don't bother - I can walk to the kitchen and make a snack or wahtever, or pop on the boot tube for some R&R, but I usually extend a rebuild over a couple of days - I install essentials first, run for a day, then start with apps (essential) and then finally sometime around the weekend I am working on the 'little' things like WinMerge, etc.
