This is the score of my Dell Optiplex Gx520 Desktop. Terrible for gaming, but I can use it to get my school work done and browse the web. I got my laptop for games. For a $100 PC with Aero, I'm not complaining.

I was thinking that...

German OS, Vistalizator doesn't translate everything. For number separators, Germans use commas where Americans use decimals and vice versa.

eg. U.S $1,000,000.00
German €1.000.000,00

As you can see, my scores aren't that great - but primarily due to the graphics. As I'm not a gamer or a graphic artist, and the others are acceptable (if nothing like the Cray), I'm perfectly fine with them (well, not with the scores but with how the laptop generally functions). There are times, however, when I do get a message that my machine would run faster if I didn't use Aero (which I typically ignore) and there are times when I pretty much max out my CPU (but 2GB is the max for my laptop so I just need to learn to not keep so many programs open at the same time or close them when done - usually it's a whole slew of Internet Explorer pages that I open to research questions but don't bother to close).

Since I won't be spending the extra money on special graphics if I buy another laptop though I will increase/improve memory and the hard drive - and probably the processor just because the computer will come with a better one (probably at least a year away which means that long before W7 as well because the laptop isn't compatible with W7 - motherboard, processor and graphics card so upgrading isn't a smart option), my scores aren't likely to improve much even when I do buy a new system. Even though the graphics look the worst, what I really need most for the way I use my system is more RAM (if only that were possible now - but I'll just have to make due and wait on that).

Anyway, that's the story here. Not much to write home about but it generally works for me (and it is, after all, 3 yrs old and upgraded from the original XP which is no doubt why W7 is out of the question).

I'll bet there are plenty of rumors, but does anyone know when Windows 8 is scheduled for release (the beta and then the grand release)? I wonder if these scores will change simply due to a change to that OS (and in which direction - LOL).

Thanks, Claude! I just found the following: Windows 8 Center. Take the poll - you'll see what everyone thinks - but the article doesn't say (in fact, nothing on the site even hints). Still, it seems like a good site to get news about it if any occurs and I think I'll RSS it. And yet here I am still with Vista and no intentions to upgrade to W7 (my laptop would need a new motherboard, processor, and graphics card and I'm not sure what software I'd lose too and I don't have the funds to buy another computer at this point - besides this one still has another year on the 4-yr warranty and works fine (though I'm concerned about the occasional noise from the hard drive but tests show it's OK) and I'm quite happy with it except for being unable to upgrade) talking about W8. If I buy a new laptop now with W7 Pro, chances are the machine I get won't be compatible with W8 (just like what happened to me this time because I got this just before Vista was first released - it actually came installed with XP-Pro and a free upgrade to V-Bus),

Does anyone think W8 will improve Experience scores just by changing the OS or that it will lower them? I don't think it'll make much difference, but if there is a difference, it will lower them (but only nominally).

The rumors all along have been for 2012 release. I am like you in a way; caught in btwn. Gave my XP Pro to my daughter because I built a new one with x64 conversion in mind. At the time Vista was availilble, reading reviews was not very flatterying to Win 7 at the time and I didn't want or need alot of down time because of incompatibility issues and there being a problem getting 64 drivers.
I am not going to go Win 7 at this point just to turn around and buy Win8 a year later.
Initial rumors were that Win 8 was going to be x64 only, also they were going to go soaring in the clouds heavily with it. Don't think that either is going to be the reality, would cause to much of a uproar. But read some where a couple days ago that there are a substantial more x64 machines now then I would have imagined.

Another big reason to keep XP is that it has a real nice fax capability, whereas evan tho it is included in Vista Ultimate I am unable to use it in Vista Ultimate x64. why do they take away useful stuff. While I see it is included in Win 7 does it have the same unusefullness in the x64 OS as in Vista. Glad I still have XP on the other computer and they can't seem to comprehend why people are unwilling to give it up.
