Windows Media Player has stopped working ... yes, but not the usual problem!

Yes, I could do that. I have identified the error. But do you want General or Details? If Details, should I select Simple or XML? Remember that my OS is an Italian version!!

Hi Florio,

The only things I noticed in the SysInfo report are:

Windows Media Center Extender Service (is disabled. Try setting it to manual.

Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service (Servizio di condivisione in rete Windows Media Player) is set to manual. Try setting it to automatic.

Not sure why either of these could be causing the problem, but I'm grasping at straws.

You should also run the System File Checker How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7.

Since Snipping Tool isn't working, try opening the error screen in Event Viewer, then press Alt + Print Screen (could be labeled Prt Scr). Then open Paint (Start > All Programs > Accrssories > Paint), left-click on the top left-hand corner of the window, and press Ctrl + V. Save as a jpg file and upload it with your results.

Hi Ed!
Latest update:
I did actually use the System File Checker recently, and there were no problems.
I would need to download software (Extender?) to be able to set the Windows Media Centre Service to manual, and I cannot locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service to set it to automatic.
The good news is that the snipping tool has now surfaced!!!
Do you want me to run the System File Checker again and send you the results?

No point in uploading SFC details if it's not showing any errors.

Still like to get a screenshot of the Event Viewer error that gets created when the program crashes.

The Network Sharing service should be in Control Panel > Administrative Tools >Services under the Italian name that I quoted (click the Name bar to sort it). The Extender Service should also be there.

Okay. I ran the SFC again, and something did turn up. Don't seem to be able to send you the log as it's too big. I've noticed, however, that the Revert.wmz file has been recovered!! Went to WMP to check it out, but clicking on the name of the skin causes the program to crash, as usual.

I am sending you, however, 2 Event Viewer screenshots. Hope these help you understand what's going on.

I've also managed to modify those services in the Control Panel.

Thanks.

Florio
