Windows6.0-kb936330-x64.exe crashes mid install (0x8007000D error)

Thanks for the information. I have the ISO for x64 Home Premium.

From what I can see, Windows Live was an assembly of various services See Windows Live - Wikipedia. For some reason, I think I had to install, at some point, Windows Essenstials, which is also mentioned in that reference. Attached is a list of services which I are installed on
on my system. Note that these were part of the ISO from S1W2. I didn't need to install Essentials, as I had before using the ISO.

Congratulations on reaching page 2 even though VUser hasn’t posted for 4 days. I’m not particularly curious about Windows Live myself.

I know you installed Vista in April 2019 using an ISO from Ex_Brit that did not include any updates beyond SP2. Windows Update continued to work (sort of) until August 2020, and it was not until then that SIW2 created an ISO that included updates released after SP2.

Are you saying you had to reinstall Vista within the last couple of years using the ISO from SIW2 but never mentioned it on the forum? (I do remember that you asked him for an ISO.) You might want to view your update history to see how old your installation actually is. If your updates were installed in 2019 as I believe, then you don’t have anything that came from SIW2’s ISO.

I tried another install and ran the sfc /scannow with admin rights immediately and the result was the same. I'll try setting Windows Update to 'never check for updates' and restart and see if that makes any difference, although I doubt that will change anything. I do have Windows 7 Pro on another machine but I never installed (or knew how to install) the mail application. Presumably Microsoft is no longer providing downloads for Windows 7 but I haven't looked into that. I did try to copy the Vista mail application over to Windows 7 on the advice of some website that said this was possible but Windows Mail crashed. i have tried installation with 2 different DVD players with the same result so it's not the optical drive. I have some IDE 40 pin ribbon cables on order. If that doesn't fix it then the motherboard must be faulty although I don't see how a faulty motherboard would continually boot the OS. I haven't used any security software before trying SP1. I did wonder whether it might be a service issue but I've tried with minimum services to no avail. I could disable the Windows Update service I suppose. Anyway thanks again for all the analysis.

Hi VUser:

If you want to use the old Vista version of Windows Mail on your Win 7 Pro computer then endeavor's SevenForums tutorial at How to Reinstate Windows Mail in Windows 7 (last updated May 2021) might still work, but that tutorial notes that Microsoft has not released product updates or security patches for the Vista version of Windows Mail for several years and recommends you use another well known supported email client.

What email client are you currently using on your Win 7 Pro machine? There are free third-party email clients that are actively supported and still compatible with Win 7 and higher like Thunderbird and eM Client that might suit your needs.

Hi VUser:

What email client are you currently using on your Win 7 Pro machine?
I don't have email on the Windows 7 pro machine. I'll have a look at the SevenForums tutorial (it looks a bit more elaborate than the method I tried). I have often wondered about 3rd party mail applications as opposed to Microsoft's offerings but never tried them. Thanks for the recommendations and the tutorials. With Windows 7 I liked the idea of a sort of modular OS where you added the elements that you used and could dispense with other parts you didn't require. As long as these modules are available somewhere long term.

Well, at age 78, one doesn't always remember things correctly. I think you're correct in that I didn't use the ISO from S1W2 although I have it burned to a disc for use if I ever need it.
I have build 6003.

You should certainly try with Windows Update set to Never check for updates, but I still think your very old installation media has some corruption and don’t think you should waste money on this hardware. Using your Windows 7 system for email is the obvious solution.

You can get the Vista ISO with all the updates installed here- File on MEGA

You will need to burn it to disc as a boot or image disc in something like Nero Burning Rom, etc. This file contains every version of Vista so you'll have to select the one you want when you boot from it.

Hi wither 3:

Yes, that link offers a file called Vx642021fromS1W2.iso, although I didn't bother to download the file since it's 3.56 GB in size, and would be no use to me since I have a 32-bit Vista OS. I presume you've just re-posted SIW2's 64-bit Vista ISO installer that they slipstreamed with SP1, SP2, and the ~ 220 security updates released as of end of support on 11-Apr-2017 (except for .NET Framework v4.5.2) on your own MEGA repository.

I don’t recall VUser expressing any interest in finding an ISO, and btw he last posted 17 days ago. Finding drivers for his hardware might be quite a challenge in 2022.

Hi wither 3:

Thanks for the offer, but no. I have a Dell / Win 10 v21H2 laptop and if the 32-bit Vista SP2 OS on my old HP laptop (which I rarely boot up these days) is ever corrupted and requires a clean reinstall I'll just permanently retire / recycle this HP laptop or install a supported Linux distro.
