Post the changes you notice after installing Vista SP2

I just installed it today, as it came up on my Windows Update notification window. Took me like 3 hours to download it (their servers must have been jammed this morning) but it installed in about 20 min. and without incident.

Now I'm wondering, What will it do? (Not what it is SUPPOSED to do, but what it WILL do!)

Please post any changes you notice here. I look forward to seeing what problems it fixes and what problems it causes. Maybe by posting problems you encounter you can help prevent someone else from encountering them. (Things like new drivers needed or ?)

I little slower bootup, seems to be getting faster though. It might have cleared the Prefetch data. Way faster shutdown. After Install compatibility for E8 came up. That's about it for me.

A little slow on the download from Windows Update but I had the whole thing downloaded and installed in about 30 minutes without a glitch. 'Restart' now loads Vista in 49 seconds.

I just tried to download SP2 and my laptop just locked up and did nothing. The download took 64 min. and there was no problem, but when it went to the second phase of updating programs it ran for 5 min then stopped updating.
Anyone else have this problem???

My laptop is a HP dv7-1242cl x64 and connected to a ATT USB 3G Mercury 885 adapter.

Thanks

Except for my external USB hard drive (NTFS) Vista detected my Cruzer thumb drives and an older Iomega zip drive as new hardware and asked to find drivers. They seem to be working fine now, though.

It fixed my Folder View problem, or at least it appears to have done so.
It used to be that if I set my Music folders to show details and selected details like bit rate and date modified and so on, it would then forget those details at each restart.

Now it seems to be remembering them! I PRAY this is true and that it lasts!

My start up now seems to be faster. I've never measured it but I'd be willing to bet it's at least 5-10 seconds faster. The same with shut downs.

I have so far (KNOCK ON WOOD THREE TIMES ! ! ! ) experienced no problems from the SP2 Install.

Looking at the reliablity and Performance Monitor I can see what SP2 installed and it looks like a lot of drivers and most of the Version's are the same.

All System Restore points prior to SP2 removed from 1 laptop but remained on another laptop. Both computers running identical programs. Curious!

System Restore working as per Task Scheduler set up, post SP2, on both computers.:)

Both laptops running quickly & efficiently. Well pleased with SP2.

Well, I'll be ......! Never thought of that, same here. Maybe, if one tries to restore at the SP2 point, older restore points will show up?

Hell of a deal! But then, I really don't have a problem, at least I have not discovered one yet. Always check out my major updates before installing, did not read anything in the fine print on this.

Hi,

I just got a new PC today with Vista 64 Bit SP1 OS. I spent a really long time downloading and installing 38 "important" updates from Microsoft. That took about an hour total. It took me 7 hours to install and configure all of my software. Feeling fully relived to be done tonight suddenly the Vista SP 2 update appears! Argh!

Now that I have my PC working with no known problems do I really want to take the risk of blindly installing service pack 2?? For now it is a hidden update. I'll be reading you brave people's posts about what happens.

I wish SP2 was available when the only thing installed on my PC was Vista SP1 as I feel service packs work better that way.

If anyone does encounter problems with Vista SP2 do post, yes!

- Michael R

Welcome to the friendly, helpful forum - Yes, I suggest you play around with your new computer & get to know it before installing SP2. Enjoy! :D

Michael R, I guess its probably a good idea to wait and see how things go with your new compu before installing SP2. But having said that, given Vista's reliability and popularity (i.e; low on both counts with many people) I imagine you will want to install Vista in a short time. I've only had my computer about a month and I was very happy to see SP2, hoping it would solve some of my issues! So far it seems to be working, and I am glad MS came out with it, finally!

Make sure you got all updates from Windows and the latest drivers and bios for your system; when I got my 'new' desktop I found that it was quite a few updates behind in that area. Losing restore points other than one prior to SP2 should not create a problem; then go ahead and do SP2, I think you'll be pleased. There was a time when I thought I'd never say that about anything Vista.

I have had no issues at all. Personally I would load SP2 on that new computer....your files should not be screwed, corrupt or loaded with internet junk...in short...it is a virgin OS and should load SP2 without issue!;)
