BSOD after updating and put into sleep mode

Hello,

I updated my computer recently using the Windows Update since it was suggested by my virus scanner (ESET Smart Security). I can use my computer fine but now whenever I leave the computer for an hour and it goes to sleep or I shut the lid to put it too sleep, whenever I open the computer back up it restarts all over again. I know that the computer has restarted because all my windows (firefox) and programs (msn & skype) are closed. I also get a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" window.

===============================

Anyways, I don't really know what other information is needed. Note that I did check this forum and read through this posting already and tried the solution (http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/260702-help-b-s-o-d-after-windows-updates-sp2.html) which didn't work for me.
Also, it seems that whenever the computer restarts, I have noticed that the section of "Files that describe the problem" are always slightly different but I think the rest is the same? The file I'm referring to is this one:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini041611-05.dmp

I have seen it as "Mini041611-03" or "Mini041611-04" depending on which time it has restarted. Is this a common thing that the file name changes by one number or does this mean a lot of my files are causing this problem?

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I will forward this to one of the forum experts on BSOD's..

http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/282419-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Thanks for the link. I'll be sure to follow through with all that.

I MIGHT have been able to solve the problem for now since it hasn't restarted on me yet (one day) after I updated the intel wireless driver (came up as a suggestion solution when clicking 'check for solutions to problems' but doesn't seem to update all the way since current version is 13.5.0 but after downloading and updating I only have 13.4.0.139). Will this have officially fixed the problem or should I follow the uploading steps anyways just to be double sure? I don't know much about computers but, I do know that the BSOD is never a good thing...

Hi,

I've followed the steps and attached everything that was asked of me. I thought I had fixed the problem but it has started up again yesterday. I do have a side question, after I ran the minidump exe. program, my internet has really slowed down and started lagging. Is this common or is there something that my computer is reacting to?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Note: I know it says I don't have a virus scanner but I am using ESET smart security though.

Great. Thanks for the attempt though. I skimmed it and didn't keep looking since it was so long. Hopefully they can take care of the main issues since I have a feeling it'll take way too long to fix everything. It has been having quite a bit of BSOD before I bothered looking into it.

Just received the call for help before heading for bed. A quick looks says its a driver.
Updated driver from Intel site and you should be OK. If you still have problems post again and I will give you a full analysis
Netw4v32.sys file description

Productname: Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Adapte
Description:Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Driver

If you have the upadated driver, already, try a roll back using device manager.

I tried updating the intel driver. I went to the Intel site (Intel® Driver Update Utility for wireless networking) and this is what shows:
Product Detected Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN Current Driver Installed 13.4.0.139 Newer Driver Available: 13.5.0
I then click to download the newer driver, which is called ICS_Dv32 which is an exe file. The problem comes when I try to run it, it only shows a loading symbol and doesn't do anything. It cuts off my wifi and I waited 2 episodes of friends to try and wait for the program to actually load and take me through the install but it never did.
Why is the program not working even though I know it's the right thing since it's from the Intel site and why does it stop my wifi from working?

I don't think it's the Intel site that's messing me up. I'm able to download the program fine to my computer. The problem comes when I'm trying to run the program. It shows it's loading but that's it. I tried right clicking and 'run as administrater' but same thing.
Is it the lack of wifi that is stopping it from loading? Because 5 seconds after I try to run the program it cuts off my wifi. Is this a normal thing to happen when updating the wireless driver?

I'll try saving to the desktop and get back to you

It will turn it off when it removes the old driver but it should return when the new driver is installed. Did you try a reboot after the driver update?

Thanks! so turning off is normal. But it doesn't do anything after that. I don't think it installs the new driver at all because it doesn't show a box asking if I want to install anything. I have done a print screen and attached it to this post of the only thing the program shows when I try running it. That loading sign does not go away and I tried ctl+alt+delete to close the 'loading' but it doesn't show up under applications. So the only way I can close the 'loading' is to restart my computer. Before the computer restarts it tells me that "iprodifx.exe" is running and asks if I'm sure I want to restart. Thus, I guess i do reboot after but it's really involunteery and it's only to get rid of the loading box that leads to nothing.

This happened last time when I first originally posted. My driver was even more outdated and it was supposed to update to the newest one but it could only update as far as the one I am using now. At first it worked fine because my computer stopped the restarting thing when i put it to sleep but a couple days ago it started restarting again and it's why I reopened up the topic to try and figure this out.

Are you sure you have the correct driver?
Can you do it from device manager. Not the best way, but better than no way.

I'm sure it's the right driver since I used the Intel site to automatically detect what driver I needed. Otherwise I would have no clue about that stuff.

I tried using device manager as you suggested. I used the computer to automatically detect if the software needed to be updated and it said that my driver software is up to date for Intel wireless wifi link 4965agn. I tried to do it manually but I just tried looking for it in the desktop and it said that the best driver software for my device is already installed.

The computer is still restarting when I put it to sleep though. What now?

I think that this will answer the restarting question
It is probably the nic card; but read for other causes
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html

to find what wakes your computer; type cmd in search in cmd type
powercfg – lastwake

The problem isn't what puts the computer to sleep or what turns it on. I know I'm the one that turns it on and I set the laptop to sleep after an hour of not using it. Which happens when I leave to do other things. It also sleeps when I close the lid, which opens again when I open the lid again. The problem is that when I turn it back on, I get the notice that windows shut down for unexpected reasons. Then I get the notice of BSOD that I originally posted and all my programs are closed.
The first time I tried fixing the problem with the search for solutions option, it said my Intel wifi driver needed to be updated. So, I updated it as much as I could but it wouldn't update completely to the new driver software. I think it updated to one version older then the newest one. so, I have a feeling it's the intel driver as well but I can't figure out how to get it to update, or at least to get my laptop to stop restarting when it goes to sleep.
