For those of you with Vista x64 who have sidebar probs after installing IE8 ...

Open the run box and run the following three commands and your sidebar will then run properly on reboot.

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

That did the trick! MY SIDEBAR IS BACK!! Thank you sir. I was getting ready to uninstall Flash10 like a previous post said but glad I read this first since I have had flash 10 installed for a couple weeks now with no problems. If you are having sidebar issues after installing IE8 run those 3 commands and wallah fixed.

I have Vista HP & my version of IE 7 has a Yahoo tool bar which was part of the BT Yahoo! package. Will I have to uninstall the tool bar for the IE 8 upgrade?

OK thanks. I am not sure if I will bother upgrading to IE 8 to be honest. I tend to use SeaMonkey & Firefox most of the time.

Follow up to my last post:

IE8 borks the Vista Sidebar. Rebooting only resulted in the sidebar crashing upon reboot without even opening IE at all. Did they even run IE8 on a Vista system with the sidebar active?? I mean how do things like this get past beta testing?

Running IE8 with a sidebar on Vista Ultiamte 64 fine....

After the fix posted in this thread I'm good to go now. I was curious and did a search on this issue and found posts from mid December (2008) that IE8 RC1 was causing sidebar crashes back then. My question now is how did this problem still exist in the final release version released 4 months later? I tried the RC1 version and had no issues with the sidebar...odd.

Again I will say IE8 is sweet with lots of nice bells and whistles so if you have no issue with sidebar your golden, if you do have problems find the fix in this post and then you will also be golden.

Microsoft seems to be in a browser race because IE7 on Vista 64 isn't stable and lagging and IE8 is released already? I smell disaster already.
