I tried installing current nVidia drivers, annnnnnnnd

black screen again.

Restart safe mode, uninstall drivers, reboot.

I am currently running regular Windows-default VGA drivers until I can think of something else :(

My Computer

Nuts!.....you could try to roll back to your previous driver via device manager as that seemed to work as I'm sure you don't want to be working with 600x800 res ( or whatever it is )........you can install drivers via the web through the device manager panel for your card - that may give you a better, compatible, result.

However, the latest drivers should work with your card.

When I start the computer up, it gives me the option to stretch it to like 1680x1050, which is what my card lets me do when it works properly.

The driver it shows is 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter', even tho I don't have it hooked through VGA, it's hooked through the other cable up to the monitor (the one with the little pins and lines, like a grid almost). The name isn't coming to me, all this messing around has my mind befuddled.

When I try to update the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter', it says its the most recent, but if I try to run one of the Vista 3D games, it says it has to run it in basic mode since I don't have 3D enabled.

What am I doing wrong?

Edit: You know, I think maybe, since it was a full wipe/reinstall, that it's trying to read my motherboard's VGA adapter?

Although it's 100% hooked up through my 8800, maybe its trying to use drivers for my VGA? I'd disable the VGA, but it doesn't show the 8800 in my Device Managers under Display, just the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'... hmm

My Computer

try one of these

for uk/international
GeForce Release 175

for US
GeForce Release 175

Nvidia has archives of older drivers for you to try out:-

NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search

Hope these help.

Only use the driver from your location - sorry - I have made a generalisation as I have selected uk/international and US - be sure to select the driver from your location as I'm sure it makes a difference and I have no idea where you are posting from.

I'm downloading (albeit slowly) updates for my onboard soundcard *ugh* and my motherboard itself, then I'll restart and give one of those a try, unless what I indicated on my Edit could make a difference.

My Computer

'Standard VGA' is the default basic driver and you will see no advanced features for your card.

Scratch the search via web as that hasn't worked -try the links above and see if that works.

I would try the Nvidia drivers first then if that fails then maybe try the motherboard and onboard soundcard driver - but, you don't want to make the situation worse by messing with those...However, I do remember issues with onboard soundcards and video drivers on some motherboards but I'm afraid I can't remember specifics.

Have you tried the Nvidia forum? - They could give you a clue as to what's going on.

It's late here and I need to ZZZZZZZZ..but I will catch up tomorrow to see if I can help.

Hope all goes well.

Well I'll be...

They work :D

I tried the version you linked me, and it seems pretty stable. I can open up the Vista games just fine, and I didn't get any sort of lock-ups or black screen.

I'm going to install a game and let it run to see what I can push.

Thanks so much! Hopefully it sticks!

Edit: aaaaaaand it didn't :(

Installed Hellgate: London, patched it up, the screen went black and stopped responding (monitor went to standby), rebooted and even the Vista 3D games won't work.

Back to square 1!

Have you upgraded to this card recently? It could be a power supply issue i.e. not enough juice to power it.

Try a different game to see if the results are the same and also see if there is a patch for Hellgate as well.

I've had this particular 8800 for awhile now, going on a year, and it was playing Warhammer Online closed beta perfectly until I installed Vista :D

I was getting online to patch Hellgate up when it blackscreened--the game runs the basic intro while its patching, and thats where it died.

It ran all night last night without issues, I defragged the drives I have hooked up and no lockups or issues, but again I'm sitting on Standard VGA adapters.

My Computer

I am using onboard sound (Realtek drivers) and it comes in just as static... I'm about to purchase a soundcard to install so I can get that running again.

Do you think this would affect the way the graphics card works? I've read in some cases that the soundcard affects the graphics card...

My Computer

Download the patches outside of the game environment - run it and then reload the game....

I'm a bit stuck on this.......Others, feel free to join in....

Do the games work when you are not online and or playing muliplayer?

I'm guessing here - it could be a network issue ????????

Before you buy a new soundcard try to disable the onboard one via the bios and see if that has an affect - obviously you'll have no sound as this is a temporary troubleshoot measure.

As of right now, I have had NO games work, and only attempted the one (Hellgate).

Considering the only driver set I had work was the one you linked me (the rest either locked me up on reboot or black-screen'd with monitors not being read), and it died on a game boot (low-requirement game at that), I don't know.

I'm going to try a few more smaller-end ones this evening and try it out, and I'll try disabling the soundcard.

Do you have a large room fan? Odd question I know, but perhaps you have one of the failing G92's? It's the general consensus here that the G92's are failing because of heat. I'm not entirely convinced that's true, but enough guys seem to think it is, so it's worth a little exploration.

Take the side panel off your case and point a room fan directly at your video card. Also get Riva Tuner: RivaTuner v2.09 download from Guru3D.com and set your card's fan speed to 100%. You can turn it down later if you want, but for now we need to find out if heat is causing failure?

If it improves and you can run games, then I'd contact BFG for a replacement card. If not, well, then it's back to the drawing board.

What's this G92? I don't see the particular number on my 3D card, but maybe I'm just missing it.

I can do the case-off-with-fan, I have a good-sized table fan that kicks out pretty well.

I'll try out that Rivatuner also.

I'm not real sure what to suggest, I have a G80, so I haven't followed this situation that closely as it doesn't apply to me; however, I would get a replacement. The problem though is that even if you got another card, the same card, it would still be one of the faulty ones and you may soon find yourself in the same situation? I would probably upgrade to a 260 or 280 to avoid any possible future problems.
