Reinstalling Vista w/o using recovery disks?

If you changed the password, try to boot from the CD, again. Use the information that I gave you in an earlier post.

I've tried every way i can think of including the advice you gave but it just wont boot from the dvd. It seems to want to run through a system check or something when I restart which takes ages, unless you press a key. I'm just uninstalling everything then I am going to have a go at tweaking the settings and install CCleaner, puran defrag etc. see if i can get it running better. I've given up on the complete reinstall for now.

Try to burn the CD again, at a slow rate and then veriify it.

Turn off the computer, now boot.
During boot keep hitting f11. With luck you will get the resatoration partion, which sets you back to factory settings. You will lose your stuff.

Thanks for the help rich I'm running the C drive through a boot time defrag with optimization using Puran + full disk check. There was a problem with the sfc /scannow in command prompt it gets to 35% and then says 'SFC error - Windows Resource Protection could not perform...

The recovery is there so tomorrow when I maybe get it running a bit better I can get it online via the ethernet cable (doesn't reach the wifi box right now) and download software for doing a full recovery which should fix any other problems i haven't fixed so far.

I'll be working on this tomorrow anyway as i need to get it down by boxing day.

My Computer

Dont know if I will be on tomorrow, but in any event, a very Merry Christmas to you.

Yeah sure no worries, it's Xmas day after all, I shouldn't have to do this myself but I offered and she'll probably give me some money for doing anyway so I don't mind.

If I can just find the software for using the recovery partition I reckon I've got it nailed from here. If not I'll still probably have it working better than it was before, which was just about the most messed up system I have ever seen. She wanted me to have a quick look at it today and it took about 15 minutes before I couldn't even get windows up and running, so I offered to take it away and have a bash while i was around.

Merry Xmas to you too!
