Thanks. I kind of need to know if this method will remain functional after I have reinstalled though, otherwise there will be a problem...

After you reinstall, you are back to square one. All you will have is the standard Operating System. You will have to make all changes again.

But with the recovery disks, that's not a full reinstall. I am just uninstalling all the acer crapware and anything else I can think of, then going to use ccleaner and puran defrag to get it running a bit better (hopefully) also uninstalled norton and will replace it with mse. I don't think I have any other choice now that this has happened, unless anyone knows different..

Just about done tidying things up, but I just ran an sfc /scannow and it threw up some errors- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. It says details are in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Had a look but it's access denied...

Some of the software I tried to uninstall has left some folders as well, some Acer ones it wont allow me to delete.

Look at what you sent us and then look at the report that you have. Were some portions not uploaded or is your report incomplete?

Try and run the SFC again and send the new report. If you followed the manual, it should show what is corrupted. You indicated that there were some corrupted files.
Now that I read your post again, you actually did not say there were errors but you had to fix them. Why do you think there is corruption?

This is what it said WRP found corrupt files...'

Looking at the last post, I am saying for whatever reason, your CBS should have, but did not show the errors.
