updated laptop hdd problems?

as its frozen i cant enter msconfig etc. so do i have to press hold power ?

ok so i powered off using "hold down power button" it has now booted into safe mode.

now do i try sfc command?

if so wich option do i need to perform? a b c d or e?

No, not necessary to do the SFC thing in safe mode. I just wanted to find out if you have a hard drive problem or software. It still looks like software.

So the only thing you can do is get into safe mode?

i have not tried anything else as yet..

since the check disc run. it froze after completion i then powered off using power button.

i then entered safe mode as u suggested i am now in safe mode awaiting next step? if you want me to try something like restart and try to enter normal mode i can try if thats whats neeeded to progress, just let me know and i will do it

if i can get it to restart. and to boot in normal mode what would be my next step? now that chk disc has run?

i have just restarted from safe mode. it has now re-booted into normal mode.

is there a way i can find out if chk dsk run correctly or if it was succsefull ?

It says it found 0 errors, I am surprised. Go to the website of your hard drive manufactuer and test it there. If you are OK. we are in pretty good shape. Your problems can probably be solved with software changes.

really? me too? as crystal disk reported different and a i had that system freeze last night after the updates and today it froze again after chk dsk ran?

so mine is toshiba do i just go to toshiba website and there will be something there to test my drive? is that right?

really ok well i will try the toshiba site see if i can test and report back

i installed and opened the software however i cannot select the drive when i click on extended or short test i get the message in the screen shot provided.ill post to the thread as cannot seem to upload screen to this message.. but cannot select the drive?

We have to go by the test results. They all say HD is ok.
What is the status of the computer, what cant you do with it?

everything but when i installed windows updates last night the freeze occurred so i hard booted when it re started it was still frozen unresponsive clock/time frozen etc.

then again tonight i installed updates windows updates and when the updates had finished installing i had to restart to finish configuring as normal. but when they finish configuring the computer restarted it got to the desk top and task bar and froze again seems to happen after a windows update every time. since last nights updates. i can find out what updates they were and what ones today if that helps?

Install a few at a time. Look at the size, try not to install all big ones at once.
