Yet Another Quicktime / Itunes....Windows Installer Package Problem!

Hello,

Let's try getting an installer log for me to look at.

1. Open a command prompt window. (Windows key + R, type "cmd" and press enter)

2. Put the iTunes installer on your Desktop.

3. Type into Command Prompt (without the quotes):

"%userprofile%\Desktop\iTunesSetup.exe /l*v %userprofile%\Desktop\iTuneslog.txt"

Upload iTuneslog.txt. Change any incorrect values in the above line, such as the name of the setup wizard.

Richard - Am up to stage 3 and typed in %userprofile%\Desktop\iTunesSetup.exe /l*v %userprofile%\Desktop\iTuneslog.txt and pressed enter.

This then prompted the message box for iTunes+Quicktime(see below).
I selected "repair" and iTunes began an installation, after a certain point the "error 7" message then appeared.
But as we're touching new ground for me, how do I upload the iTuneslog.txt.? (Is it in the event viewer?).

Kev.

ps. On viewing the properties /compatibility tab for iTunes set up, I noticed it is set for XP SP2, is this anything to do with the problem?

Hi,

The "iTuneslog.txt" should appear on your Desktop, but if it is not there, I have probably messed up the command! I was not 110% I had got it right!

If you look carefully, you will notice that XP SP2 is greyed out, and the check box above it is not checked. When this checkbox is unchecked, it means it is running in Vista mode. You can try XP mode by checking the checkbox, but I really doubt it will help, but it won't do any harm.

Morning,
You shouldn't have doubted yourself - it is on the desktop! :) It's just that I didn't realise what I was looking for!

I viewed the iTuneslog,(see attached zip file) and using notepad-edit-find-%userprofile%\Desktop\iTunesSetup.exe /l*v %userprofile%\Desktop\iTuneslog.txt, an error box comes up saying it is unable to find this line of script.

And the checkbox thing didn't work! That was just a longshot!
Kev.

Hi,

Can you please send me a screenshot of the:

"C:\Program Files\iTunes"

directory? Also, before running the install, go into task manager and make sure that iTuneshelper.exe is NOT running. Close it if it is.

Hello,

This is annoying! We are so close! My iTunes folder looks just the same as yours save for a couple of file being slightly different sizes (by a few kb, nothing to worry about, mine are usually slightly smaller, and .dlls do vary in size for System types)

What happens if you try to run iTunes.exe? Do you still get that configuration window as you did when you ran the icon?

Hello,

Try to install/repair the .net Framework as I said earlier. The QuickTime(21) folder is very strange, and we will leave it for the time being. The QuickTime folder looks good, except that there are no icons when there should be several. Do you often have problems with icons?

I have been in touch with Itunes and the problem is with the update. They are trying to rectify the situation and an update will be issued.

Richard,
I've installed .net Framework and run the repair option and rebooted.

I've then clicked on the iTunes setup icon on my desktop.

This has run and the "iTunes has been installed successfully" message appeared at the end.

I've then clicked on the desktop iTunes icon and the attached message appears!

And no, I don't normally have problems with the icons.

ps. Shouldn't the iTunes properties icon have a target location?

@Lancelot:360 yes, but not for 12months!

Hello,

Do not worry about the Target. Some applications do this. I have not worked out the benefit, it is just annoying.

I think your iTunes is now working properly, but iTunes requires QuickTime, and it is QuickTime that is causing this problem. Can you please try to install QuickTime (WITHOUT iTunes) and tell me what happens?

OK,
I've installed QuickTime as a separate entity.
On running the application I chose repair rather than remove.

Just after the installing message appeared this privilege error appeared and wouldn't let me go any further.

I gather I need to adjust the privileges as mentioned in your earlier postings, so I'll try that first.

Have also attached the QTime directory.

Have now adjusted the permissions to everyone for "QuickTime Read Me".

Then clicked on the iTunes installer (I notice this is for iTunes and QuickTime, should this this just be for iTunes?).

The program runs and as before indicates iTunes installed successfully.
On clicking the iTunes icon, the required files missing message appears.
