NOT a thread about Malwarebytes!

I like this sentence:
"Windows XP or Windows Vista devices with Norton have more protection against malware than an unprotected system would."

I can say that Norton has lived up to what it said in the referenced link. I use Norton Security.

The legacy version (3.5...........) of Malwarebytes (see Post 4) which was supposed to be operable in Vista is no longer supported using the free download. Could be it is viable for those who have a purchased copy.

Hi wither:

That depends on your definition of "no longer supported". Malwarebytes Free v3.5.1-1.0.365 should run correctly if you download the Win XP/Vista legacy installer from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_legacy. This "legacy" version of Malwarebytes v3.x is similar to your Norton Security v22.15.2.22 antivirus - it's now in "maintenance mode" so there likely won't be any further product updates or feature changes but clicking the "Check for Updates" link on the main dashboard delivers the latest available virus definitions and manual scans run correctly. Most of the recent feature updates and bug fixes for the fully supported MB v3.7.1-1.0.568 (Win 7 and higher) are required to ensure compatibility with ongoing Win 10 OS and Windows Defender antivirus upgrades, which Win XP and Vista users don't have to worry about.

I purchased a lifetime license for Malwarebytes Premium many years ago and if I activate my license the real-time protection features work as expected. As Vistaar noted in post # 1 the Ransomware Protection module doesn't work on Win XP and Vista machines but that's nothing new - that feature has not been included for these older OSs since Malwarebytes v3.x was first released in December 2016.

I think I made that comment because I tried to install it and it wouldn't install. That's why I installed v2.2.1. I already had disabled the check for program updates mentioned by Vistaar. As a result of your comment, I launched Malwarebytes and it said my trial had expired and immediately wanted to install a program update. I closed that message and simply updated the definitions. Other than the date portion, i don't know what 2019.05.09.01 means or if it's really the latest.
