Context Menu - Add COPY TO FOLDER and MOVE TO FOLDER

How to Add "Copy To Folder" and "Move To Folder" to the Context Menu in Vista​

   Information

Copy To Folder allows you to right click on a item and copy it to another location immediately. Move to Folder allows you to right click on a item and move it to another locatation and remove it from it's current location immediately.

   Note

This is also under the EDIT menu in a Explorer window. (See Example screenshot below)

EXAMPLE: Default Edit Menu Location:

NOTE: These are the keyboard shortcuts to use the Menu bar location while having the file or folder selected that you want to Copy or Move to another folder.

• Copy To Folder - Press and hold Alt then press E and F
• Move To Folder - Press and hold Alt then press E and V

EXAMPLE: Copy To Folder and Move To Folder Added to the Context Menu:
NOTE: Right click on a file or folder to see your new additions. You can see what happens when you click on each one beside the context menu screenshot. You can select a different drive to.

METHOD ONE

Using a REG File Download

1. To Add Copy/Move To Folder ​

​

A) Click on the download button below to download the file below.​

NOTE: You can add one or both of these.​

​

Add_CopyMove.reg​

​

​

B) Go to step 3.​

2. To Remove Copy/Move To Folder ​

​

A) Click on the download button below to download the file below.​

​

Remove_CopyMove.reg​

​

​

3. Click on Save, and save the .reg file to the Desktop.​

​

4. Right click on the downloaded .reg file and click on Merge.​

​

5. Click on Run, Continue (UAC), Yes, and then OK when prompted.​

​

6. When done, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.​

METHOD TWO

To Do Manually in Registry Editor

1. Open the Start Menu.​

​

2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter.​

​

3. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.​

​

4. In regedit, go to: (See screenshot below)​

​

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers​

5. To Add Copy To Folder​

​

A) In the left pane, right click on ContextMenuHandlers and click on New and Key.​

​

B) Type {C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13} and press Enter.​

NOTE: To Remove Copy To Folder - Right click on this key and click on Delete.​

6. To Add Move To Folder​

​

A) In the left pane, right click on ContextMenuHandlers and click on New and Key.​

​

B) Type {C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13} and press Enter.​

NOTE: To Remove Move To Folder - Right click on this key and click on Delete.​

7. Close regedit.​

...and there is a way to create a option to copy and move to: C:\, D:\, E:\, etc etc ? that would be good to, whit thi I mean:

right click> copy to> (submenu) c:\ d:\ etc etc

and

right click> move to> (submenu) c:\ d:\ etc etc

I'm not sure what you mean by (submenu) before the drive letter, but you can Copy To and Move To a drive letter with this.

I am also reading the tutorials (man very great stuff here) to learn but, you are the Pro here :P

Sorry Pofeteminos,

I do not know how to add something like that. It's your preference, but I'm not sure why you would want it separated like that. It seems like it would make it harder to use that way.

I suppose you could add a shortcut of each drive to the Send To menu, in combination with this shortcut, for something similar to the function you are wanting.

awesome post this will be really helpful, but i would like to know if there is a option to add a sub menu to the move to folder feature, for example, the send to menu gives you a few options in a sub menu which asks if you want to send a drive or email etc. I know the move to option asks where you want to move the file but if it offered its own menu with multiple options of where you want to move the file that would be awesome. So is there a way to do this?

There's not a way to add it like that to the Move To Folder menu, but you should be able to customize the Send To menu by adding a shortcut for it there instead. This tutorial will help show you how to if needed.

thanks for the fast response, I was trying the send to option earlier but it seems when i try and send a file from hard drive to another hard drive it will only copy the file and send it to the folder leaving the original file, but the move to option fixed that, but i guess im just lazy, I figured if i could add a menu to the move to option it would be a few less clicks lol:D, thanks.

I´m using this a lot, and it´s really useful... But there is something I would like to have...
Is there any keyboard combination, like ctrl+alt+c to move to folder? Because then I would be able to use it with my logitech mouse, and that would be wonderful!
I guess there is no such combination...? Any possibility to create one?

Not sure if you can prgram this, but you could use these:

Copy To Folder - Press and hold Alt then press E+F
Move To Folder - Press and hold Alt then press E+V

That almost worked... It´s a great idea anyway
At first, I didn´t understand why this letters... But unfortunatly it only works with the first letter(E), so with that I have the Edit menu open, and can click on either one of Copy to folder or move to folder. I´m not sure if that´ll be easier, but thanks a lot for the answer!
