HELP PLEASE Keyboard Directional Buttons changed

Taz Rose

Member
Hello to everyone
I am new to these forums and I have come here for help

I installed some Mods for Oblivion and my directional keys Uparrow and leftarrow have some how ended up with multiple functions
Uparrow is also esc, F12, b,n and Windows key
Left arrow is also F2 and PgDown

Ive tried restoring my system, deleting/reinstalling drivers, modifying the registry and even third party freeware like AutoHotkey and Keytweak but nothing works
I just want to reset them back to being up and left (i use the directional keys, numberpad, right shift and right control for all my first person shooters and have to relearn with WSAD something I dont want to have to do)
I am even considering getting another keyboard but somehow I dont think that will solve the problem. I deleted the System32 entries for my keyboard and it stopped functioning altogether. I unplugged and plugged it in again and it set up the system32 (installed generic drivers there and then ) and the keyboard functions again but my problem remains

Please help me if you can. I dont know what else to try
Kind Regards and thanks in advance
Taz

You messed everything up by adding in the Mods. Mods are never recommended for anything. You may have corrupted system files. Uninstall the program and all mods. Then check the keyboard. If you have a microsoft keyboard...get intellitype and it might fix the problem. Modding is always bad.

Dont diss the forum. Alot of issues are resolved but we need time to try and find a way to solve them.

I am sorry about that, I was just frustrated and vented a bit. No harm intended. I see my post slip off the first page and thought it was forgotten about.
Thanks for responding
Ive taken off the mods, they were not executables, only dat and esp files that modify textures and add characters.
Ive literally tried everything I can think of or find on the net and I am stumped as to where the root of the problem lays.

I know for certain that uparrow is also assigned to esc,/, b,n and F12. I used third party configuration tools to remap the keys but no joy. Ive removed all the registry entries for controllers except the languages (all backed up of course). I tried removing the system32 drivers for the keyboard controller and reinstalling, and again no joy.
Ive never messed around with wow64, prehaps that where i need to look? Dont even know much about that one, but will look into it. I dont want to have to reformat the pc, everything else runs fine.
Ive checked for virus's using Norton 09 and ran windows defender, all good, system is strong and healthy, the way I like it.
Those mods came off very quickly trust me, and will never go back on.

Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks for taking the time to read this
My apologies again.

It could be that the keyboard mapping table has become corrupted. Try the following, but be aware that you may end up reinstalling if either of my suggestions don't work.

First method. Follow the instructions here http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/103844-keyboard-input-language.html and change it to something else. This is only temporary. Delete your old language (the problematic one). Note that you may have to restart to make the selection stick. When you restart, follow this again, only this time reinstate your original language and delete the temporary one. Restart - is everything working now? If not, try the second method.

Second method. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html

Okay tried the different languages (tried this before but not in the same way you suggested) and no joy. I am looking at method two.

Just to clarify. I have OEM disk Vista 64 service pack 1. My system is fully up to date with service pack 2. Do i just remove service pack 2 in order to use the repair feature on the disk?
Thanks again for helping me out
Kind Regards

Okay, Ive located the file fsres.dll in C:Windows/system32/drivers. There are three of them,

FXSRES.DLL.mui (not this one)
FXSRES.DLL (modified 21st Jan 2008, an application extension file)
FXSRES.DLL (modified 2nd Nov 2006, same file type)

Ive installed 7-Zip and obtained a copy of this file from my installation dvd. Ill try to replace it now. Shall I get rid of these two altogether?

Hi Taz,

Are you sure that you've got the file location correct? On my Vista 64-bit installation, they are located as follows:

FXRES.DLL C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\
FXRES.DLL.mui C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\en-US\

Here are my copies of the files: View attachment 17582

Before you copy these to your system, delete the file that shows the modification date of 2nd Nov 2006 and try this again. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Lol, i love, the little animation. I cooked the sauce from scratch so its been simmering for about 4 hours. And just finished cooking the pasta and munched it down like a wolf!

Really appreciate all the help Dwarf.
I removed my FSXREX.DLL and Mui and replaced them with the ones you kindly provided. Ran the scan again as verify only and I get the same "cannot repair member file" as above.

I just used 7-zip and went to the folder spool/drivers/x64/3 on the installation disc and the FSXREX.dll file is not there. In th spool/drivers/x64/3/en-us folder there is only FXRES.DLL.mui. Ill try putiing just this one in see what happens.

I am back. Still getting the same thing with the scan regards FSXRES.dll.

Sigh, dont want to have to reinstall. If you can think of anything Ive missed please let me know

P.S the windows article for replacing files in the link you provided uses command prompt to take ownership of files/folders and copy/paste of replacement files. I have already manually taken ownership of my system32 folder and all its contents and can modify it without "access denied". Cant i just copy them over manually by navigating to the folder? Sure I can, just want to check

Hi Taz Rose,

Instead of "repair install", you may try the simpler "repair by restore" to an earlier state initiates with OS CD/DVD instead on from window.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
